moving back to New Orleans Nov. 2015
I am looking to rent a 1000 square foot apartment or condo or house for a year starting in Nov. 2015. Goal is to rent for at least that first year back home in NOLA for me and the wife, and then buy after learning the market or re-learning it since I have lived away from NOLA for 12 years or so. Any leads on homes Uptown, Riverbend, Bywater or City Park area, Mid-City appreciated. Maybe even old Metairie in a pinch. Thanks Randy McClain, email mcclainrandy13@yahoo.com

Welcome back. Be prepared that the rental market has changed dramatically and rents will be much, much higher than you might expect, especially in those areas.

My niece was looking for someone to rent her condo (She married my nephew in the Marines, and they moved to Parris Island). I sent her your addy, in case she still has it available.

Sorry, Randy, I just heard back from her. She signed a tenant to an 18-mo lease just a couple weeks ago.
Good luck in your search.

Are you interested in the WestBank? My nephew has a friend who has a house to rent--I think it's in Terrytown, but I really don't know.
I passed along your note, so you may hear from them.

"Niece-in-Law" just seems awkward.windywave wrote:Your niece married your nephew . . . .Way to combat stereotypesRoller wrote:My niece was looking for someone to rent her condo (She married my nephew in the Marines, and they moved to Parris Island). (Besides, she'd a gorgeous model who presents products all around the world, so I'm anxious to claim her as in integral part of the family)

What a stereotype!!
It should make all of us join the Marines. Best Wishes to the happy couple.

Re: moving back to New Orleans Nov. 2015
thanks guys for the well wishes, tips. Looking to spend $1200 to $1800 per month rents. Want to get settled again before buying. I wouldn't rule West Bank out at all. But don''t need a lot of space compared to days when kids were in the house with wife and I. Down sizing Wave fans here. Did get my hoops season tickets yesterday, though.
Re: moving back to New Orleans Nov. 2015
There are nice areas on the westbank, and it is usually significantly cheaper (no bridge tolls anymore, either). Parts of Terrytown and Gretna are very livable at the rent you want to pay. Algiers may be a bit tougher; it seems to be either really, really expensive or really, really bad with little middle ground.

When you downsize, make sure you really downsize. So many folks just pack up decades of boxes and pile them into the new place or waste money on one of those storage places. We found it good to be brutally honest. Toss or donate all those kids things that "the grandchildren might use" cuz their folks will want new things anyway. We had a massive yard sale and anything that was not sold was donated or put on the curb. We were amazed what people wanted. It was actually quite liberating.randymc wrote:But don''t need a lot of space compared to days when kids were in the house with wife and I. Down sizing Wave fans here.

Picky. It's where she lived before they got married. They also rent out "his" condo, and they continue to talk of them in those terms. She still manages hers and he manages his, although they are joint property.windywave wrote:My nephew's wife or just plain my nephew (their married he got half her stuff).
I told her to get a pre-nup, but she didn't. Since he's a Military Officer, she gets paid about 3 times what he does.
(And anyhow, this is Randy's thread, we should bow out) ;-)

Well, over an 11-week period last Spring, she visited nearly every major city in Europe (plus Istanbul and Tangier) on a tour that spent 3-7 days in each place. He went to Pensacola, San Diego, Seattle, and New Orleans.windywave wrote:...Yeah but he gets to travel and see interesting places.
