Tulane medical student shot in stomach trying to stop Lower Garden District armed robbery
http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/201 ... rt_m-rpt-2
A 25-year-old Tulane University medical school student has been identified as the man who was shot in the stomach while trying to stop an armed robbery early Friday morning (Nov. 20) at Magazine and St. Mary streets.

The university's president, Mike Fitts, issued a statement identifying the student as Peter Gold, a fourth-year medical student.
The crime situation around here gets even more depressing.

We pass that location every day on our walk and a colleague of mine at Tulane used to live at that precise corner. Fun times.

Peter is a great guy. I and my med student friends have nothing but kind words about/for him. His stepping up to help a person in need is proof of his fine character. God speed in his recovery.

In the early 1970s an intern at Tulane medical school was shot on Loyola Avenue, just down the street from Charity hospital. He survived, and told the police that after being robbed he pleaded with the gunman not to shoot him because he did a lot to help poor people. He said the gunman laughed as he shot him. This foolishness isn't new.

That is true; in the early 80's another Tulane med student was abducted, eventually killed by her kidnapper/assailant. I remember many of her classmates questioning their beliefs that capital punishment should be abolished on the basis of that experience.

Two, count them, two, ghastly New Orleans crime stories on tonight's NBC Nightly News broadcast. Not exactly Chamber of Commerce material.

Agreed. The Golds served as Chairs of the Parents Committee a few years ago. Great people. Any news on how Peter is fairing in his recovery?

This dude needs to suffer. I hope he gets what is coming to him in prison, if you know what I mean. And daily. For the rest of his life.
