I was at an alumni event in Atlanta last week and Dannen mentioned sailing and men's golf I believe. He also said we hired a new tennis coach, but I did not catch the name and see none of it online. anyone know who that is?

Maybe this is part of Dannen's Grand Scheme to drop baseball by adding Sailing!

My initial reaction was to use that song in some capacity, didn't know the artist, saw the name and went with the 40 and under crowd's response :-D

How many schools have sailing? I'm guessing we will ranked in the top 25. Something about Green Wave sailing just seems appropriate.

No softball, lacrosse, soccer or softball but we have bowling and sailing. I'm guessing it's a cost thing.

Would we be setting up to add a women's sport (soccer/softball) with these adds?

You guys made more curious.

More than 200 colleges have sailing teams, but there were only 14 at the Division I varsity level in 2015. The rules then said no sailors were allowed scholarships based on sailing prowess:
http://www.scholarshipstats.com/sailing.html

This is a co-ed sport, at least in some competitions.

Yale, Georgetown and the College of Charleston were among the more dominant teams in this year's championship event that ended earlier this month. These teams compete at the NCAA, Division 1 level.

Interesting move by Tulane in dollars and sense (no sarcasm intended).

One interesting piece in this is that the sport has been regulated by the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association, which had drawn the NCAA's ire in recent years over the way it manages competitions.

Some additional info is here:
http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2014/ ... am-racing/

http://www.sail1design.com/college-sailing-rules/

Can't help but wonder if the NCAA is making a bigger push into the sport, which I don't think is even fast-tracked with "emerging sport" status. Beach volleyball became an NCAA sport this way, and women's rugby has been recognized as an emerging sport.

I'm down with that!

When I was in school, our (club) sailing team, led by John Dane, was highly regarded.

Now, it would be cool if they could make the women's Rugby team, a National Champion in 2016, official, so the ladies won't have to resort to GoFundMe to finance their championship runs.

Call the boat Windy Wave in honor of my Chicago friend. It just fits a sailboat as well.

I'm so bummed I was busy earlier and missed a thread which covered both late 70s soft rock (now called "yacht rock", probably in part due to the referenced song) AND early 90s hip-hop. Seriously, those eras basically bookend my musical wheelhouse. Y'all are awesome.

I don't know what's weirder, that Christopher Cross was once cool, or that there was once a smack-talking rivalry between two rap groups consisting of young kids who wore their clothes backwards or inside-out. I'm looking at you, ABC, and your girl Iesha at the playground.

No, it's a non-scholarship sport so there's no Title IX requirement to match on the women's side.
