Re: Fall Baseball Recruiting Signees
Just the facts, of these 25 there are almost certainly a few walk-ons. Maybe we'll get lucky with one, Hunter Williams was a walk-on. Obviously we need Div 1 players, but you're not getting 25 good players in 1 class, that's not really possible.Tulane49 wrote:We need div 1 playersvisualmagic wrote:Some walk-ons and some minimum scholarship guys.Tulane49 wrote:Randy I think it's going to be addition by subtraction
You can only have 35 on the roster
If we have 25 recruits sending out tweets that they have committed to Tulane for next year, (and these would be Jewett's guys) we can only retain 10 guys from this years team
As Tony stated there are rumors circulating about who is not coming back
We can all be armchair managers and go over the roster and speculate who's coming back based on playing time, which is usually the reason a player complains about and chooses to transfer
As far as money, how can we bring in 25 new guys with only 11.7 scholarships
It appears some will have to get academic scholarships or need base scholarships
I just wish Jewett was more transparent
Most walk-ins are usually fill ins that their parents can afford the tuition

Man looks like we are getting some big time arms in here. Hopefully richert makes it to campus along with others. Will really be great if we followed up next year with same amount of arms.

It does look like we could have some good pitching. I'm just not sure who's going to hit next year.RollWaveRoll wrote:Man looks like we are getting some big time arms in here. Here is the stats on Riley Richert for this year
Attended Howard College, teammate of Brandon Fraley.
May have been injured because he didn't pitch until May
Only made 7 appearances
Riley Richert has signed with the Dodgers.
He was one of the many JUCO guys committed to Tulane.

Reads a lot like Ross Massey's senior season. Let's hope we get more than a season out of him (while hoping Ross figures things out).Tulane49 wrote:We would also like to congratulate Tulane commit @jcampbell_40 on a great year. Threw a shoutout in state championship game. 11-1, 0.60 ERA

Braedon Barrett goes deep! A 3-run shot in the 5th puts your SwampDogs on top of the Steamers 6-2!

It would be nice next year to have him and Ross throwing from the left side and Trent Johnson throwing from the right side with Josh Bates and Chase Solesky if he returnswaverider wrote:Reads a lot like Ross Massey's senior season. Could be a solid staff
Re: Fall Baseball Recruiting Signees
It looks like they are getting some good arms. They could have a good pitching staff next year and may have added some quality lefty's. It would be nice to get some sort of press release on who we signed and who is coming back. Jewett certainly knows who is coming as of June 24th. Any late additions could be covered in a follow-up press release. It would certainly create a positive vibe.
Re: Fall Baseball Recruiting Signees
If they announce who has committed and they don't appear next fall it would show that we can't stack scholarships and the parents have to come up with too much money to cover the cost of tuition and it's too hard for JUCOS to transfer credits to get acceptedtjtlja wrote:It looks like they are getting some good arms. .@TUJewett & @GreenWaveBSB w/ late addition to '17 class. Physical, 6-3 frame. FB 84-86 w/ sink. Young for his grad yr, more velo coming
This signing could bring the number of new signees for next year to 26 assuming they all can gain acceptance
Should be a lot of competition for playing time next year

Smart, big, strong looking prospect. Like the fact he has good foot work. Also projects good power which translates well at Turchin. Pop time should and needs to improve.randymc wrote:Aaron is rated 9 on the Perfect Game scale and projects lots of power that website says.

Re: Fall Baseball Recruiting Signees
That's about what Emerson Gibbs was when he got to Tulane. But I agree, you have to be able to pitch. You can throw 95 but if it's all you have and it's straight, you won't miss many barrels at this level. You can throw 80 and if you can throw 3 or 4 pitches for strikes and locate them, you'll be successful.visualmagic wrote:I hope he knows how to pitchTulane49 wrote:Latest signee Connor Pellerin RHP from Episcopal

Well Gibbs really struggled his 1st two seasons at Tulane. His success came after he added velocity.TU23 wrote:That's about what Emerson Gibbs was when he got to Tulane. There are successful pitchers in college at 84-86, but it's really hard. We had our fair share of guys throwing around that speed this year. Very few of them were successful. It isn't the only thing you need but velocity is probably the most important.
Re: Fall Baseball Recruiting Signees
Gibbs stuggled cuz some nitwit coach at Jesuit liked to try to blow his arm out. Pitched him about 170 pitches in a game his Sr year. That is why he struggled for 2 seasons.

No, that's speculation and there's really nothing to back that up. It was stupid, but he was still healthy.Wavemania wrote:Gibbs stuggled cuz some nitwit coach at Jesuit liked to try to blow his arm out. Pitched him about 170 pitches in a game his Sr year. That is why he struggled for 2 seasons.

Rumor has it that Braedon Barrett won't be coming to Tulane. Tulane didn't accept enough of his transfer credits.
