WDSU no longer on COX cable

Post by Fan Since '54 »

The local channel is apparently asking for a bunch more money from COX to telecast the channel. Cox is not giving in. Great timing by WDSU. Right at the start of football season. What happens when the Saints are scheduled on NBC? Should we go back to this technology?

Okay that didn't last long. It is back on now. My wife called it a pi$$ing contest. I'd like to know what transpired during the relative short time if was off.

Well, Saints don't play on NBC this year, unless in the playoffs.

this happens every year with every carrier, be it DirecTV, Dish, Comcast, Cox, Verizon FIOS, Charter... etc.

Local stations want more money for their content... the MSOs all argue that the price is too high... it always reaches a point where the signal gets cut off... then they both go to the bargaining table and compromise. Never fails.

The only time I've seen a station or network completely lose their battle with an MSO was when DirecTV told the Weather Channel to go fvk themselves.. Weather Channel came crawling back after several months. I believe that was before they were acquired by NBC Universal.

Actually they do. Monday night @ 7PM, vs Vikings.

Roll your eyes all you want, that old thing would get you completely uncompressed HD broadcasts, better quality than what you'd get of the same channel through a cable or a satellite dish.

PSA: there's no such thing as an "HD antenna"... an antenna is a dumb piece of metal tuned to pick up a certain frequency, and as long as you have it plugged into an HDTV tuner (the coax port on an HD TV set), it will get you the best quality broadcast TV possible. You'd be shocked how many people still don't know that, 8 years after the nationwide "digital switchover".

OTA stations pick up the cable broadcast when the local team plays...WDSU has carried the Saints Monday night games for years.

True, but if the issue is that cox won't carry NBC so you can't watch the NBC feed of the ESPN game, wouldn't you just watch ESPN?

isn't that point moot since Cox has WDSU back in the fold?

Sure, but if the argument was one couldn't watch the game on cable NBC, that's silly, because the game was on cable ESPN, not to mention OTA NBC.

Yep. Maybe he's a big fan of the local pre- and post-game coverage?
