College Football 2017- Week 3

Post by Fan Since '54 »

While there are still a few rent-a-win games this weekend, this week mostly has inter sectional games, and some scattered conference games. The best of those games appears to be Clemson @ Louisville. With other interesting games such as SMU @ TCU (traditional rivalry) Tennessee @ Florida, Notre Dame @ Boston College (the other Holy War), Texas @ USC and for those of you who want to see LScrew go down, or not, LSU @ Mississippi St.

On my watch list this week is ND @ BC, and Texas vs USC.

What game(s) are on your watch list?

Why is Catholics vs. Catholics (or, last week, Mormons vs. Mormons) called a "holy war"? They're on the same side. Notre Dame vs. BYU should be the "holy war". Or when either plays SMU or something.

Meh, someone's probably gonna get offended no matter what...

The real question is should we be posting anything of a religious tone on this board?

Nothing religious in "tone" has been posted. It's not religious or pious to describe a game between Catholic schools as a "Holy War." At most it is a bit irreverent.

Something religious in tone would be me saying to '54 that I pray that he find the mercy of Christ Jesus in his heart. That would be both "religious" and offensively presumptive.

LG, I know that. My post was meant to be tongue in cheek, which is why I posted the "facepalm" pic. I guess I should have found a tongue-in-cheek pic.

All I'm saying is that there is precedent for a holy war involving members of the same religion on the opposite sides.

Tennessee-Florida is interesting to me because the losing coach will hear the hometown wolves howling. Another such game this weekend is Texas Tech-Arizona St, except that the losing coach here will be in more danger of losing his job at the end of this season.

Oklahoma St-Pitt is an interesting game to see if OSU is for real. Pitt doesn't look great so far but this is a tough road game. I'm also intrigued by Ole Miss at Cal. Cal's new OC is the ex-HC of Eastern Washington, a very dangerous 1-aa program when he was there.

I'm starting to wonder if RR will last the year at Arizona. And when does FAU begin to get a serious case of Buyer's Remorse?

I can't see a reason why Rodriguez wouldn't coach out the year, whatever gets announced at some point.

FAU is in much bigger trouble. I think the jury will be in soon but this was such a big move on their part that they won't be able to pull the plug when they should.

Can we really tell that much about FAU yet? They lost to Navy (who we assume is solid) and Wisconsin (top 10 team). I'm not a Kiffin fan at all, but I think the jury is far from in on whether he can have good teams there.

well Bethune-Cookman is up next (should be an easy win) followed by Navy. So we'll get a better idea in a couple of weeks.

Pretty quiet at Texas A&M's stadium. Trailing ULL IN THE 3rd 21-14. Sumlin may as well start looking for his next job if they lose.
