Louisville also linked to the scheme. And also Miami (Fla.) basketball.

since the stripper scandal is still fresh, I wouldn't be surprised to see Louisville get the death penalty.. and Pitino to get at least a 10 year show cause

No way. First thing I saw when they were named is "first school to be given an exonerating slap on the wrist will be Louisville".Johnny Mac wrote:since the stripper scandal is still fresh, I wouldn't be surprised to see Louisville get the death penalty.. and Pitino to get at least a 10 year show cause

Re: FBI arrests college hoops assistants
just listened to the U.S. attorney of NY press conference. two schemes.
1. apparel company (Adidas) and financial advisers bribed college coaches to recommend and send players and recruits to them as current and future clients in a bid to control the money that current and future big-name players can make from endorsements and investments when they turn pro.
2. The apparel company and financial advisers in cahoots with Adidas paid recruits in high school to sign with Adidas' college teams; and those college coaches were bribed with cash so they'd funnel the young stars into scheme no. 1 above.

Re: FBI arrests college hoops assistants
Louisville and Miami, Fla., are the two Adidas schools involved in the steering recruits part of the scandal.
Jay Bilas says Okie State, Auburn, USC and Ariz are Nike schools, so the scheme there seems to be more along bribing asst coaches to steer players on their rosters or under their influence to particular sports agents and investment advisers, some of whom may have had smarmy backgrounds in how they'd handled other clients' money in the past.

I was wondering whether this would affect my local school and our conference brethren Cincinnati, but forgot that they switched from Adidas to Under Armour a couple of years ago. Lucky them?

Well at least college football recruiting is still pure

"Men's basketball coach Rick Pitino expressed "complete shock" that Louisville is involved in the federal investigation into fraud and corruption in recruiting."
I can sorta see Rick Pitino as Claude Rains but I just can't place who is Humphrey Bogart that he is speaking to.*

*Upon edit: How about Brent Musberger?

Louisville recruiting plan:
1) sell them on the city
2) sell them on the history of the program
3) if 1 and 2 fail, bring in the strippers
4) hit the discretionary fund

I think it's probably more like 2, 3, 4, "other". Nobody's selling anybody on Louisville, KY (except maybe during the first weekend of May).NJwave wrote:Louisville recruiting plan:

Sports Talk expecting to see both Rick Pitino and the Loserville AD fired today.*
The vultures are gathering around the UL Administrative Center expecting an announcement.
* setting up a colossal fight over a buyout for the two, but especially Pitino.

Re: FBI arrests college hoops assistants
I don't deny Pitino, et al are likely toast but we need to at least first see the fire generating all this smoke. Currently UL is not even "formally" named but you have to be a dunderhead to not acknowledge the clear references in the prosecutor's release yesterday. So UL was easily outed.GreenieBacker wrote:Sports Talk expecting to see both Rick Pitino and the Loserville AD fired today.*

Almost every current college coach's employment contract has a turpitude clause (although Baylor did not pursue it against Briles and simply paid him off.) If you (or those under your supervision) are not merely breaking NCAA rules but federal crime statutes, UL may decide it can terminate for cause and owe nothing. See you in court.
However as we all know and see regularly, most folks simply require an immediate resignation with compensation to avoid litigation. (Nothing like doggerel poetry during an offweek.)
My SWAG is Pitino wiggles through this but that's based on nothing more than that's the style of Mr. Completely Shocked.

Yeah, Pitino is safe until UL's lawyers say they have cause. Then he's gone.

Tom Jurich is out, Pitino is expected to follow today. Both have already had incredibly short meetings with the university president.
on edit: espn.com is saying it's already done on both counts.
F*** you, Louisville.
