Re: ***Official Soccer Thread***
Tie or win at T&T should do the pending Honduras game today.
Great effort last night.
I still think this team is going to be great....in 2022.

Honduras has to make up 12 goals. Tie at T&T and we're fine. Pulisic is a man amongst boys......at 19. Good Lord.
Re: ***Official Soccer Thread***
2 wins from them and they finish ahead of us if we don't win. They won't win both so tie should do the trick as we have goal difference on them and Panama.FW wrote:Honduras has to make up 12 goals. Tie at T&T and we're fine. Pulisic is a man amongst boys......at 19. Good Lord.
I marvel at the kid. He was so good yesterday. The goal was world class with the poise and patience. The assist was even better.
Re: ***Official Soccer Thread***
They're not going to win twice, but yeah, you're right. Tie against T&T and we're in 4th though, because Panama would have to make up 6 goals on us to overtake us, which they won't against Costa Rica. Australia tied Syria in the first leg of their home and home in Malaysia. Next leg is in Australia so you have to bet the Socceroos win it.NJwave wrote:2 wins from them and they finish ahead of us if we don't win. First-class touch. It is amazing. I hope that knock he took in the second half doesn't become a problem. He's going to be getting a lot of that, though--especially in CONCACAF.NJwave wrote: I marvel at the kid. He was so good yesterday. The goal was world class with the poise and patience. Re: ***Official Soccer Thread***
Honduras gives up as late a goal as possible to put themselves in serious jeopardy. A tie and we advance. I'll say a loss and we advance to playoff but I believe that we will win. I think Panama beats a Coasta Rica team that has qualified.
Re: ***Official Soccer Thread***
We can qualify with a loss. Panama can beat CRC, and Honduras can beat Mexico, but a good thing is the both Mexico and CRC called up their "A" sides for these games.
Re: ***Official Soccer Thread***
Alright, it's almost time. Pulisic is a game time decision because of his calf.
Re: ***Official Soccer Thread***
And...they're out. Going into the day a Wales win and a Serbia loss would have given the Dragons a group win and berth. Didn't happen. I will pull for the Ireland in the playoff.

I stand corrected. Thanks to a last minute goal for Panama against Costa Rica we will not make the World Cup. We are eliminated. Heads must roll.

Re: ***Official Soccer Thread***
Honestly is there any reason to keep anybody over 25 on the team? By the time it matters again they'll all be old. Might as well just start playing all the younger players to give them the experience.

Start with gulati and axe everyone on the Way down except the nutritionist.
To the players who made this trip, say goodbye to everyone not named pulisic, yedlin, and wood.
This whole hex was disgracefully played. Tentative, listless, and lost. Looked like a Bob Toledo team. If everything wasn't going just right, most of the guys panicked or crumbled.

Who can fire him?Wandering Quaker wrote:Start with gulati and axe everyone on the Way down except the nutritionist.
Didn't he start a 20 year plan to win the World Cup after finishing last in '98? and instead we totally missed the World Cup by finishing 5th in a 3 team group (well, 2 team apparently)?
Re: ***Official Soccer Thread***
The best internet analysis I saw said it all (sorry no link):
"We could beat Trinidad. We could beat Tobago. How could anyone expect us to beat them both?"

Gulati is up for re-election in 4 months. This can't help his chances.

Re: ***Official Soccer Thread***
I'm pained for the real soccer fans in this thread (which everyone is). But I wonder how many of the people yammering on the phones to sportstalk radio this morning about how embarrasing/disaster this is, even watched the game, or even knew it was going on at the time.

He did the obvious thing--and took longer than he should have taken to do it, but it's done. Changing the outlook of the USSF is the hard part and takes so much impetus from the top. (Hmm, we Tulane fans know something about that.) There is a mountain of work to whittle down during the next few months. I hope we get it mostly right.windywave wrote:He gone
