The guy from football search was on Baton Rouge sports talk today and said he expects A&M to hire Fisher away from FSU.

Spoke with a rep who is an FSU fan at lunch today; they are thinking (hoping) the same thing. Lots of FSU fans do not like him, feel that he helps $crew their beloved Bobby Bowden, feel good riddance.
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?

I would be gobsmacked. Seriously there is no upside for him there unless FSU is going to be sanctioned or he hatea the AD

A&M has deeper pockets and can offer a package hard to turn away from. Close to Houston & Austin with Dallas a few more miles up the road. Plus he gets away from that tomahawk chop crap ...

Fisher has to leave not because A&M is as good or better a job than FSU, it's not, but because he has done this too many times. The two years' romance with LSU and this year's flirtation with A&M means he will have no more good will in Tallahassee should he return.

NC State coach Dave Doeren is supposed to have turned down Tennessee. Part of this has to be the reports that he was going to get a mixed reception at best in Knoxville.

All of this.

But more.

I think Fisher had to have known that before he started this A&M thing. He isn't stupid. This tells me that he suspects this year's 6-6 (or 5-7) season might not be a one-off, and its time to get out of town while he's still seen as an unfettered success story, before it all crashes.

It is a one-off. FSU had to throw in a skinny true freshman who struggled but improved at QB after Francois went down. They'll be good next year and should stay good but Fisher has thrown away his shield against bad luck with his dinner theater Hamlet act.

Fisher also has a child with some sort of illness which can best be treated in the Houston area. That has to play a factor too.

The Tennessee news just keeps on getting better (or worse depending on your bent). Now it's leaking that the AD reached an agreement with Brohm from Purdue. He then took it back to the university for approval and had it denied because Brohm still personally owes WKU $750,000 for leaving there. So the AD went back to Brohm with a lesser offer and Brohm declined. And people thought it couldn't get worse. This brings up a few questions:

1. Why didn't the AD get pre-approval on the deal from the administrators with veto power?
2. Do the powers that be at UT not realize how bad hiring and then un-hiring their second coach in a week makes them look?
3. Has Brohm fired the agent that set up him with the Purdue deal? I've never heard of a situation in which the larger university poaching a coach from a smaller university doesn't pay the full buyout.

Is Rick Dickson moonlighting as their AD over there? Maybe he's just a Consultant. Seriously this debacle reminds me of some of ours in the past. Although not at this scale.

I Imagine that Brohm had somthing like a a 4 year deal that payed the WKU buyout amount over 4 years and if he left before then Brohm would be responsible for paying what was owed to WKU.

Looking a lot like the Texas baseball search when Piece took the job.

Mike Leach is now considered a real possibility at Tenn.

A catchy song to follow Schiano as the coaching carousel turns -

Also - Vols AD John Currie has been fired after only 8 months on the job. Schiano is toxic ...

Tennessee's `Currie Up' coaching search may finally land the Vols their man today

looks like Tenn. will end up smelling like roses if they land Leach.

The clowns on the SEC beat will celebrate this by cackling about how fun the SEC Media Days will be but I think the real winners if this happens are Dan Mullen and Kirby Smart.

They have already won, really. Even if they end up with Leach and he does a good job, the level of dysfunction this has shown is staggering. It will impact the program for years to come.

Now there's talk that the fired AD (probably fired) was the one trying to hire Leach and that was vetoed. They need to beg Brady Hoke to take the job for a year.

Oh, and the story is that UTenn would owe that AD well into seven figures if they fired him.

you're right lg, Currie may be gone at Tenn.

Tennessee reportedly fires AD John Currie after world’s worst coaching search

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/ear ... b4f7f8ee7c

Tennessee Athletic Director John Currie wanted to hired Greg Schiano to coach the Vols’ football team. It didn’t go well. Mike Gundy thought hard about it but decided to stick with Oklahoma State. Currie then reportedly turned to Duke’s David Cutcliffe, Purdue’s Jeff Brohm and North Carolina State’s Dave Doeren. Nope, nope, nope. Last we heard, the school was trying to land Mike Leach, with Currie reportedly flying to Los Angeles on Thursday to meet with Washington State’s coach for a meeting that went “very well,” according to Sports Illustrated’s Bruce Feldman.

But there might be a tiny snag in those plans: Chynna Greene of WVLT in Knoxville was the first to report Friday that Tennessee has fired Currie..........

so, no Leach? I take back my roses comment.
