USM forced to cancel baseball series

Post by waverider »

Because of Mississippi anti-gay marriage laws Stony Brook will not be allowed to travel due to NY’s ban. Stony Brook is in the SUNY System.

Without breaking forum rules, I guess I can only go as far as to say this law is a bad idea for those states. So now the San Jose States and Buffalos of the world are denied the opportunity to get the million dollar football paychecks for games at Bama Texas etc. that keep the lights in their athletic departments on and keep their lower revenue sports operating.

So what does USM do now? Having an off weekend in only the 2nd week of the sport isn't that good of an idea. We'll be in Oxford against Ole Miss, otherwise this would be an interesting opportunity.

Yeah. The athletes are the ones being hurt. If their govt employees want to stay home, let them, but the schools should have the right to choose at the very least.

USM is playing in a tournament somewhere now, but loses all the revenue from a home weekend series.

What if stony brook or someone else makes a regional and is placed in one where this is an issue?

I would imagine they would be placed in a regional that fits their availability.

Then again, they could get placed in a Miss. regional, have to decline, then be replaced by an sec school

Best part, the law hasn't even been implemented yet, so NY is really just punishing the kids instead of taking a stand. SCOTUS just refused to hear the first appeal (on standing issies) because the law isn't even in effect.
