Baseball wins 17-16 scoring 5 in the 9th!!!!

Post by tjtlja »

Truly unbelievable. Hoese with three run HR with two on and two strikes in bottom of 9th to tie it. Artigues with double, steals 3rd, scores on wild pitch. He had 4 hits tonight. I cannot believe what I just listened to.

Coming back from ten runs down will be a huge confidence boost and will encourage the guys to never give up. This is huge--much more than just a "W."

I agree. What was the largest deficit - 13 or 14 runs.

They chipped away all game long to give themselves hope in the 9th. Hats all the way off.

Graf was out of control on those calls. What a great win. Well done.

And the contributions off the bench were amazing. Glancy for Johnson and has huge double to score two. Matthews replaces Jensen and goes 2-3. Niemann replaces Owens and goes 2-2. Couple that with 3 hits from Hoese, 4 hits by Mr. Artigues, and a huge double by Heinrichs. What a game. I hope Roper is ok. May have twisted his ankle. Since we don’t play to Sunday, Mr. Whitting will have a couple of days to mull this one over and that feels great.

For those that didn't see it, Roper went to barehand a grounder and rolled his plant foot, ball deflected to Gozzo, E6, runner to 2nd. Felt like a typical Tulane Baseball 2018 bad break at the time, but we had nooooo idea what was to come. The following inning he loaded the bags, was yanked, and the 10 run (7 unearned) inning happened.

Actually roper pitched the whole 3rd inning after rolling it in the second laboring some, the it all turned in the 4th - great comeback- great win - for those listening at home Carter and Polito (closer and 6/7 guy) were the loudest chippers the whole first part of the game

Glad those kids didn't roll over & give up. Maybe this will get their fire lit & we can go on a run like last year toward middle of season. :-)

Right, all the Roper mess felt like it happened a game ago. I did appreciate the UH doody stirrers having to swallow their tongue in the later innings though. :king:

I was only 1/5 following and last score I heard was something like 14-5

Money quote from Jewett: “He had the green light (to steal),” Jewett said when asked if he sent Artigues. “When he stole third, that put pressure on them. We could flatten the ball out. An error or wild pitch ...”

I'm shocked, absolutely shocked that with two outs and the winning run on second, our coach called for a steal of third. He took the bat out of his hitter's hands. He risked making the third out at third. Another example that our coach doesn't know the unwritten rules of baseball. :green wink: :green wink:

Anyway great win for the wave. TBTwitter has it right. This is one time where caps matter:

This was a great win. :-D (It almost ranks up there with the TU win (home run) by Jason Sparks over LSU.) This will hopefully turn this season around.

Unfortunately I was not there to see, I left early. :(
Now I know I'm going to get ribbed by my friends that sit around me but I'll take that kind of ribbing anytime, as long as TU wins. If I would have stayed, TU would have most probably lost. (I know I shouldn't have left early but that was a big mistake, I'll be there Sunday.)

Houston: My oh my, Cougars. The Cougars had a 10-run lead over Tulane in the sixth inning, but Travis Jewett’s Green Wave fought back with two runs in the sixth, three in the seventh, four in the eighth and five in the ninth, including a walk-off passed ball to win 17-16. Another loss to the Green Wave this weekend would be devastating for the Cougars from an RPI standpoint. What a horrible loss.

The loss was horrible because they were up 10, not because they lost to us.

But the subsequent sentence is the one that said terrible. It is horrible because they were up 10 and now if they lose the series it is a much bigger RPI hit
