Yesterday vs today. Plus a little surprise...Saints related
Something I posted on FB this morning. My how times have changed. Something to be said for "the good old days".
Okay, the NFL players like to protest the National Anthem by kneeling when it is played. I wonder how they would feel about an invocation? Would they kneel? Anyway I was there at the first Saints game ever and Archbishop Hannan gave this invocation that day.
"God, we ask your blessing upon all who participate in this event, and all who have supported our Saints. Our heavenly Father, who has instructed us that the 'saints by faith conquered kingdoms ... and overcame lions,' grant our Saints an increase of faith and strength so that they will not only overcome the Lions, but also the Bears, the Rams, the Giants and even those awesome people in Green Bay.
"May they continue to tame the Redskins and fetter the Falcons as well as the Eagles. Give to our owners and coaches the continued ability to be as wise as serpents and simple as doves, so that no good talent will dodge our draft. Grant to our fans perseverance in their devotion and unlimited lung power, tempered with a sense of charity to all, including the referees.
"May our beloved 'Bedlam Bowl' be a source of good fellowship, and may the 'Saints Come Marching In' be a victory march for all, now and in eternity."
The fans loved it. And then John Gilliam ran the opening kickoff back 94 yards for a TD and the Saints were born into the NFL.

Funny you should mention that. There was this guy who use to dress up as Moses at Saints games. I originally thought this was cool until I realized that Moses and his following wandered in the desert for 40 years before entering the "Promised Land". And it was pretty close really, because it took the Saints 43 years to win a SB.OGSB wrote:...then spent 40 years wandering the desert.

If you told them they had to after the church paid the league millions of dollars (do the players get any of that?)to have a pregame prayer, you probably would get people sitting it out. If you just had a prayer, people are pretty good sheep, spur of the moment.
Wandering around somewhere in a matchup zone

They are protesting during the National Anthem, not protesting the anthem itself.Fan Since '54 wrote:Okay, the NFL players like to protest the National Anthem by kneeling when it is played.

It's like when fundraisers for breast cancer awareness morphed into fundraisers for breast cancer.ml wave wrote:They are protesting during the National Anthem, not protesting the anthem itself.Fan Since '54 wrote:Okay, the NFL players like to protest the National Anthem by kneeling when it is played.

Seems your archbishop failed to notify police about repeat child rapists and instead allowed continued access to young boys.
