Here's and idea. Remodel the 100k stadiums into 80 k stadiums with bigger more roomy seats. You want people to sit the entire game give them a comfortable seat. While SMU's stadium is kinda bland I did liek their seating where the bench's had backs. The pro's got this right. Smaller better stadiums. This isn't rocket science.

The slow process of fossilization began the minute that 65"+ high-def flat screens became relatively affordable to the average person (or was it when 37" Wal-Mart specials dropped under $150 for the SEC crowd? ).

Here's and idea. Remodel the 100k stadiums into 80 k stadiums with bigger more roomy seats. You want people to sit the entire game give them a comfortable seat. Actually they are less concerned about the ever-widening girth of the hoi polloi and more concerned about adding more Whale suites... but regardless, stadium renovations are definitely trending to less available seating for the masses.
(FWIW, I like your idea, but sadly the only industry that seems to have taken the "cater to the masses or go extinct due to home theaters" threat to heart is the movie theater industry)

there's no turning the clock back, so unless you're one of a very few select programs around the country (and you better keep winning!) too many seats at those mega stadiums will continue to be difficult to fill. Especially for those non-marquee games.

better to build smaller and concentrate on making the fan's experience better than he can get at home. As theaters have done (as Pete pointed out).
