Yeah I get you. The way I interpret this is this is the best teams we can get to come here and MD has no interest road warrior stuff. I also think this schedule is MD's decision all the way.windywave wrote:

I'm renewing my season tickets but I do miss our Metro conference scheduling both in and OOC. It is what it is. Current one is still better than what Conroy/Dickson gave us. Let's just start winning.

The way I interpret it is an intentional effort to have an easy ooc schedule and fluff up win totals.Poseidon wrote:Yeah I get you. Re: MBB OOC Schedule
I don't think it's that bad.
We get FSU to come here, which is the biggest OOC game in Devlin in forever. The tournament at FGCU has some pretty good teams in it. Georgia State had an RPI inside the top 100 for much of last season.
It's certainly not great, but I'm looking forward to some of those games.

Re: MBB OOC Schedule
We played a lot of cupcakes in OOC in my (Metro) day. Maybe they didn't seem that way because we were still new and they weren't guaranteed wins? Or maybe it was just because there was no internet for us to pat each other on the back and say, "yeah, yeah, that schedule really is terrible!" like there is now.Baywave1 wrote:I'm renewing my season tickets but I do miss our Metro conference scheduling both in and OOC. I mean, we had Hofstra and Central Connecticut State and Lamar and Mercer and many others, along with the usuals like Nicholls and Prairie View. I think time makes the memories grow fonder.

To be fair, with the 2 tournaments we have 7 home games and 6 non-home gamesPoseidon wrote:Yeah I get you. The way I interpret this is this is the best teams we can get to come here and MD has no interest road warrior stuff. I also think this schedule is MD's decision all the way.windywave wrote:

Re: MBB OOC Schedule
We need to be scheduling with the goal of getting to the tournament whether the goal is reasonable or not. This schedule does not do that. The only win that would be touted as a quality win would be Florida State.

That Metro conference was better than what we have right now in the AAC. Memphis doesn't come close to selling out Fogelman anymore and hasn't for several years. We knew you guys were going to be good so we didn't care about the opponent. We went to see Tulane.PeteRasche wrote:We played a lot of cupcakes in OOC in my (Metro) day. We deserve so much better
Re: MBB OOC Schedule
I'm dating myself. I was thinking of first iteration of Metro. Maybe just too much nostalgia. Regardless I wish we scheduled like Temple. This looks like LSU's OOC schedule.

I'm too lazy to go back and check, but in that FTW podcast with Dannen, there was a segment about scheduling. I think I remember TD saying that next year (next year, sigh) our MBB schedule would be like that of an expected NCAA bubble team. Does anyone else recall that, or am I imagining it?
Re: MBB OOC Schedule
He said that but it really doesn’t make any sense: Doesn’t explain why they would make this schedule so uninteresting

This OOC schedule looks like it’s for a CIT bubble team. I wonder why they left Pete’s intramural team off the schedule.TU77CAL82 wrote:I'm too lazy to go back and check, but in that FTW podcast with Dannen, there was a segment about scheduling. TD was referring to 2019-20 MBB schedule. He left impression that this year would be like an NIT bubble team. (NOT)TUPF wrote:This OOC schedule looks like it’s for a CIT bubble team. With this schedule to get any type of meaningful respect, Tulane is going to have to win 25 games and have a winning conference record and at least not be one and done in conference tourney. Why? Because this does have aroma of being CIT bubble schedule.

I almost wonder if this is a gift for Dunleavy to leave Tulane with the legacy of at least one winning season...

We've always played cupcakes, even in the glory years, but we also played some decent OOC teams, too. This schedule is, to put it charitably, weak outside of ONE opponent.

Re: MBB OOC Schedule
I agree that the OOC schedule is not very appealing. That being said, we knew this was coming to a degree.
At the recent "Let's Talk Football" event at Boomtown Casino, Dannen indicated that this season's basketball OOC schedule would be *not* be formed with the intention of building RPI, but that next season's OOC schedule will be built with the intention of strengthening the team's RPI (or whatever the new system is called) for postseason purposes.

Dannen knows basketball program building well. UNI was pretty damned good during his tenure
