Never been a fan of ESPN's QBR. And again " for two year" is misleading. That's 6 games for Fitzpatrick which is still a small sample size. It's also a convenient end point to stop the Fitzpatrick stats at last two seasons. If we go back to 2016 he completed 56% of his passes and threw 12 TD's to 17 INT's.gerryb323 wrote:https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2 ... two-years/

Well he was with a different team then, I guess that's why the comparison would be better just the last 2 years.visualmagic wrote:Never been a fan of ESPN's QBR. Re: Ryan Griffin ...
All I need to know about QBR is that Mayfield, Rivers, and Allen all had a higher QBR than Brees this weekend. Brees did everything except cover Calvin Ridley in that game, and if Atlanta had gotten the ball back one more time, he'd probably would have done that too. Ridiculous.visualmagic wrote:Never been a fan of ESPN's QBR. And again " for two year" is misleading. That's 6 games for Fitzpatrick which is still a small sample size. Re: Ryan Griffin ...
If I recall key factors in those ratings are yards per pass attempt and TDs per pass attempt. For a guy like Brees that specializes in short accurate completions, he simply will not rate as well. Lots of Brees passes are arguably glorified runs to same effect. A few yards and if receiver gets by first tackling wave then great YAC potential. It works because of his incredible lifetime accuracy stats (>2/3rds pass attempts completed for his career. After three games this year, it's 80%+!! Not bad for an almost 40 year old who is "generously" measured as 6 ft.)
Brees is certainly the greatest free agent signing in history of NFL and one could argue comparable to LeBron's in NBA for total effect. Is there one in baseball that ranks with those two?

Re: Ryan Griffin ...
Thank you. I'd bet most pundits will say Reggie White, but first of all, Green Bay had a pretty good legacy before White, and it's not like without White, they would not have still been a contender. A certain #4 played a big role there too.Baywave1 wrote:If I recall key factors in those ratings are yards per pass attempt and TDs per pass attempt. Without Brees, the Saints would still be wandering listlessly in the desert. Thank you Nick!

Pedro Martinez? (Wasn't technically a free agent, but basically was)
Both close to Brees' case.

Ryan and Tanner Lee both have a chance to actually see some action this week. Both will be the active backups for the Bucs and Jags, respectively.
