CJesque:
“It is frustrating, but not disheartening,” Montgomery said of his team’s 0-5 AAC record. “We’ve played South Florida, Temple, Central Florida, Houston and Memphis, so that is part of it, and it’s the conference we’re in and we have a tough road in our conference. I’d like to take our conference schedule and set it into a Power Five (league) schedule, and see how they would fare in some of those situations.

“We are a team that is trying to work into the upper level and the medium level of our conference, so that we can compete at a high level. … Am I frustrated? A little bit, because we want to beat these teams and we are getting closer.”

We have everything, EVERYTHING, history-wise, against us this coming week. It's gonna take a great motivation/psychology job by the staff this week to beat ECU.

This game will not be about ECU, it will be 100% about Tulane getting it done.

So let me get this straight. I’ll be sitting in section 205 in great seats and we are supposed to win by two TDs? :| Nothing in my 44 years as a Tulanian has prepared me for success.

As IM said in another thread, NEVER bet on college football.

Last year, Cincinnati was worse than ECU is this year (maybe not in record but as far as actually being competitive in games) and we were feeling okay about ourselves. Fate did what it always does to us at homecoming, but since we were playing such a horrible opponent we fought it as best we could and managed to get it down to a FG try to break the homecoming jinx. But in the end, it was a Tulane homecoming game, right?

I won't breathe easily until the final gun sounds and our score is higher than theirs.

Looks like their QB change has also been successful. Should be another good measuring stick. Can this team continue to “mature”?

I watched much of the Memphis/ECU game. ECU lost their first string safety for a targeting penalty--he will miss the first half of our game. He is their defensive leader.

One thing I noticed is that their DL is pretty good at push rushing, but Memphis took advantage of ECU's lack of contain on the outside, both on swing passes and on runs. We should know early on whether our OL can win the LOS. If we do that, we'll have a big day running the ball against them, because we will be faster. But we need to be ready to play, because if we have to pass to come from behind, it could be a long day, both for their pass-rushing ability and our lack of crispness and scheme in passing the football.

Defensively, we match up well. We should stop their run and their WRs don't look particularly big or fast, with the exception of #88, who is their big play guy. Therefore, I think our DBs should have a good day.

I just think that, as the game goes on, we should be able to pound them sufficiently to get them to quit, which they did against Memphis once they got 2 scores behind. Montgomery is an emotional coach who gets wrapped up in calls on the field and loses focus. One would think that WF can out-coach him. Then again, Montgomery is probably coaching for his job, and a wounded animal is always the most dangerous.

We better be ready to play. If we are, we should see something like the Memphis game. If not, more like Wake Forest or Tulsa, where the game could go either way.
