Never had Portillo's, but I actively despise the branding of "fast casual." Soooo many problems. Its (and I don't mean Portillo's) an excuse to either charge more for less OR, depending on the restaurant, avoid having to offer an actual experience when offering more. It is one of those things that sounds egalitarian on the surface, but is just another way to make a dime while actually hurting food culture. Hipster driven too.

I distinctly said I wasn’t talking about Portillo’s. Rather the “fast casual” movement

I visit so infrequently that I'm happy to get a Chicago dog and an Italian beef sandwich at the same place and not have to fight Chicago traffic to visit two different places many miles apart just because you said they were better.

That's like saying I'm in Cincinnati so I'm going to Wendy's for chili

Bad analogy. There's no national chain selling Chicago dogs and Italian beef.
There's no Cincinnati equivalent to what you're saying because the large, city-wide chain that everyone eats for "local favorite" food (Skyline here, Portillo's there) is actually the best, better than little one-off mom&pop places.

Say Windy -

There's a hot dog shack in Evanston sitting between a couple of streets close to where one picks up Green Bay or Goose something. The structure is or was painted yellow (mustard) color. Know what I'm trying to describe? Any good? Tks.

No but effectively a hot dog is the same at a stand in Chicago so the fries matter.

Hot Dog Island or you might be thinking of Heckys which is a BBQ place that's pretty good

It's a building by itself so could be Hot Dog Island. Like on the end of two merging streets forming a triangle at the apex with the shack sitting there.

I need to find Italian beef somewhere near the Viagra Triangle... we are stuck going to Chicago for Xmas, now.

The good: more Malnati's for me
The bad: WTF are we going to do while we are there to entertain a 9 year old who'd rather bury her face in a cell phone/iPad/Kindle HD?

Yank.. I'm going to watch the Saints/Steelers somewhere near the Triangle. Let me know if you're up for a late afternoon game and beer since Windy is probably out of the equation, living in the burbs, now. As you saw in the other thread, McFadden's is dead.
