Boom, but OSU will just hire the interim guy from this year. Sorry, Luke Fickell.

Good for UC and AAC. Timing is all. Fickell waits around OSU forever like Prince Charles and then decides to move on because the King looks immortal until he doesn't.

Meanwhile ECU hires USM AD literally hours after it hires new football HC. Tulane did the opposite bringing on Dannen and then having him find Fritz.

I don't want to read too much into this but it still potentially says volumes. It's like some pro teams where the owner always picks the HC/Manager and others where the GM is truly empowered to do it. Either the USM guy was "unofficially" involved in this or he wanted to get out of Dodge CUSA so bad, he accepted that one of the most important duties of a typical Div 1 AD was not part of his (initial) job description.

In other words, alums/Board seem to run ECU football and didn't trust a new AD to do it as well they "could." We'll see.

Matt Canada is available. Just saying. Doesn't he need a raise to pass Dave Aranda?

What makes you think he will leave?
What makes you think he will stay if the coaching staff that recruited him fully turns over?

This problem is eternal and universal. First job for any coach is to recruit and keep who you already have. That is almost always easier than replacing them. Just ask Fritz about his quarterbacks.

Osetkowski is almost averaging a double-double for Top 35 Texas. You think Dunleavy wished he had stayed?

You may be right but the first two names that popped up before I could finish typing this were McCleskey and Russell Wilson.

I didn't read deep enough into the article. How happy are Maryland fans today? His career record is 3-31, including 1-5 at Martland as interim in 2015.

Everything I'm reading says very happy. He was the top choice of many of the players and is known as a big time recruiter in the DMV.

I agree the hire is dubious for two reasons. His head coaching record as you point as is bad and even his record as an OC isn't great if you take out time with Tua and Juice Williams. The other reason is he had all kinds of off the field issues at New Mexico as head coach. He punched an assistant coach and got into a scuffle in a bar with a student reporter. That's not a great look given what Maryland just went through.

Just saw that Turner Gill retired from Liberty just a few days ago citing the need to care for his wife.

Freeze to liberty is amazing on so many levels. He and Ian McCaw are meant for each other.

I don’t follow any of the palace intrigue but I’ll admit to prurient interest. I know the name Freeze should mean something but I really restrict myself to Tulane and disdain for the cartel.
