Tulane SMU MBB tonight
Tulane SMU MBB tonight
Well someone had to take the plunge and start this. SMU by 9.5 on the road. O/U is 139.
Many successful bettors always bet the mo. Obviously that means here laying the points. I'm cheering for Tulane so I'm not betting but until something changes, no reason to disagree with that dispassionate approach.
I would take the under for an adult beverage but not more risk than that. No great insight there just a hunch Tulane will play better defense and/or SMU won't shoot lights out from outside like UC did in first half.
See you diehards at the gym. Game is on ESPN2 with 6pm tipoff.

Announcers can’t stop slurping up Dunleavy. I understand his long NBA career provides a lot of talking points, but zero analysis of him as a college coach or the Green Wave.

Not true! They said he coached shoot around today EXACTLY like he coached the NBA in 1999. "He only knows one way to coach"angrywavedad wrote:Announcers can’t stop slurping up Dunleavy. This is an ugly game. Both teams shooting terribly. 35-27 them, three minutes into the second half

I left the office early and walked by the restaurant next door--to see Cornish shooting free throws. Shocking. Someone evidently wanted to watch. . . whatever is happening on the court.

Back to back steals on the press cuts it to 7. 4 minutes left

Ball game. 5 seconds on shot clock and they get an unchallenged drive from beyond half court for a layup.

No zone defense again. We cannot plan man. So damn stupid. And I wish Crabtree could get off 15-20 shots in a game just to see. I also wonder how much more competitive we would be with a college coach. This is not working.

Re: Tulane SMU MBB tonight
We actually did a decent job with the trapping press for about 2 minutes. Really with all of the "quick length" we have we should just run havoc for 40 minutes. We can't guard in half court very welltjtlja wrote:No zone defense again. We cannot plan man. So damn stupid. And I wish Crabtree could get off 15-20 shots in a game just to see. Re: Tulane SMU MBB tonight
We played a little better tonight but it is like grading on a curve. Sehic had a good night. Daniels, Sehic and Crabtree could be a nice building block for next year if they all come back along with Walker and Days.
Re: Tulane SMU MBB tonight
Tulane played decently tonight. Press did work when Tulane used it but otherwise man to man except for one or two possessions. Tulane outrebounded SMU and managed turnovers reasonably. It has not shot well lately. That was difference in game. Good FT shooting though in second half.
Most positive thing is team has not quit on itself nor on Coach Dunleavy.
Next home game is Memphis a week from Sunday. It goes straight up against the Saints at home in playoffs. UGH.

Re: Tulane SMU MBB tonight
Tulane has moved games before when they conflicted with previously-unforeseen Saints games, even just for a MNF game. I am sure it would have to be blessed by Memphis and TV, but I'd bet Tulane is at least attempting to move it.Baywave1 wrote:Next home game is Memphis a week from Sunday. Re: Tulane SMU MBB tonight
Who cares at this point? Tulane will have less AAC wins this year than they did in 2018.
Dunleavy can NOT coach college hoops. I would be shocked if this ball club winds up with 10+ wins.
TIME FOR A CHANGE, PERIOD.

Re: Tulane SMU MBB tonight
Well I care and so do the others that at least show up at Fogelman. Problem is game is on a regular ESPN network ("U" I think.) It obviously needs counter programming to NFL playoffs and I guess Tulane may be it. I hope they can move game time but I'm going regardless.
Meanwhile upon reflection, game reminded me of lots of losses in MD years 1 and 2. It did not have this year's flavor. Team hit a scoring cold patch in early second half and was down by 18. It fought hard to get back but it was too much of a deficit to overcome in less than ten minutes.

Re: Tulane SMU MBB tonight
The moral victory of beating the spread at home against a mediocre SMU team is pretty weak tea.
What kept the game close was that Tulane figured out how that leaving McMurry wide open was not a good plan and the rest of SMU is pretty meh.
It was nice to see Sehic have a decent game and that the team still plays with energy. But the squad is an odd collection of players in need of a stronger system, players who only want to freelance and players who barely belong in low D1.

Re: Tulane SMU MBB tonight
I disagree on the talent level if ROE were playing. That's why this year is so disappointing both with current performance of the others and missing a key player .
I agree totally on defensive scheme. Dunleavy seems to have almost totally sacrificed short term goals to make his team "learn" NBA man-to-man. This team is defensively slow plus certain players either lack technique today to play man to man or the grit to do it effectively. (WSJ had a great article a few weeks ago that no college player at that time had been willing to take a charge from Zion R. of Duke. I get who likes being in the way of a freight train of whatever size but it's a required part if the strategy is to work.)
If Tulane played a zone the majority of the time and literally packed the middle regularly, I safely guess with this year's schedule it would have at minimum a .500 record even with its recent poor shooting. Just this fan's opinion.
