Nothing cheap about it. Jewett was pilloried for not scrimmaging enough in season one and one of the reasons given was an insufficient number of catchers. Athletes get hurt. It’s part of the game but begs the question of why the team was so thin to begin with. Here we are a couple of seasons later and hopefully we have depth in position to not shut down what for some here was the reason Jewett’s team was ill prepared for his first season. Personnel matters.

Fritz gets taken to task here for not successfully recruiting QBs thus affecting the entire offensive philosophy and success of his teams. Personnel matters.

Dunleavy gets taken to task for not recruiting breakout players and for individually coaching up players yet not fielding cohesive teams. Personnel matters.

Not to thread jack as I'm looking forward to baseball in a few weeks. However that phrase pithily summarizes the whole issue with our basketball program.

Plenty of catchers, and the roster is at 35.

My prediction meter the past 2 years has been on the Fritz (get it?)... We look quite good at times.

Ole Miss is an early gauge of how much we have improved.

From the Tulane baseball Twitter
ICYMI, @d1baseball named 8️⃣ of our dudes as "Top-50" 2019 prospects in the @American_BSB this year.

Hoese (7)
Cellucci (15)
Roper (18)
Mathews (23)
Gillies (27)
Solesky (31)
Trent Johnson (40)
Gozzo (49)
Baseball America gave out their top 20 AAC Prospects for 2019 and the only Tulane players were Hoese at number 12 and Roper at #20. BA projects Tulane to finish 6th in the conference. https://buff.ly/2RDpn9H

1 of the sites mentioned Hudson Haskins as one of the AAC’s top newcomers.

Only 4 new pitchers on the roster, interesting that several Freshman that arrived on campus in the Fall are not on the roster any more. I guess a lot of it is going to come down to how much the guys that were here last year have improved on the mound.

We have five pitchers in the Top 40 of the AAC and we are picked 6th??? If this list, which usually comes from the scouts, turns out to be accurate, then we will have at least three teams from the AAC in the college World Series. Who are the starters for Houston, East Carolina, USF, etc. - Verlander, Keuchel, Kershaw, and Scherzer?

Every single one of those pitchers was on our team last year and we finished 8th. BTW it’s top 40 draft eligible prospects for 2019 from the conference. Probably some freshman and sophomores from other teams that are expected to be better than some of our guys.

After paying attention to expected ranked teams, most reporters just mail in their evaluations on lower teams. Tulane has been bad to mediocre the past two years. In between yawns while they think of the free buffet in the Alex Box Press Area, the reporters simply predict no big improvement. They then quickly move on the next fifty teams, they have to write a blurb about. Without marquee players in lineup, the only way for Tulane to get these observers' attention is to start winning again. May it happen.
