lsu basketball
Re: lsu basketball
Louisville cheated their way right out of Conference USA and into the Big East then ACC. Even if they received the death penalty, the money they stand to gain from previous and subsequent years in the ACC makes the ROI on past transgressions pretty good.

LSU coach Will Wade’s incentive pay in limbo while on suspension
https://www.nola.com/lsu/2019/03/lsu-co ... nsion.html
According to the suspension section of his contract, Wade is not entitled to supplemental compensation — like the extra $2.1 million he receives for TV, radio and media engagements — nor incentives, while under suspension for “any investigation by LSU, another governmental entity, or the NCAA or SEC."
the incentives in his contract would total $550,000 were LSU to win in post-season play and eventually win the NCAA Tournament.
and we wonder why people cheat.

Still telling him not to talk, but he wants to coach (LSU).maddog wrote:It was a trap. He can be fired for cause (no payout) if he lies about NCAA violations to his bosses. If he doesn't answer those questions, he keeps on getting paid for a while. He got good legal advice.

I just read his statement and think it could be a basis for him to be fired for cause if LSU so chose. Not sure he got good advice (or more likely he insisted over his lawyer's objections).

I’d think refusing to show up to meet with your boss would get you fired for cause in any job???

LSU responds to Will Wade's request to be reinstated: Until he talks, he'll remain suspended
https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge ... 6f261.html
"He was suspended not because of what was written in the media," Alleva told The Advocate. "He was suspended because he refused to meet with us an an employee-employer relationship to discuss the issue."

Not a good week to be LSU's NCAA Compliance Officer. As Ron Popeil used to tell us 240 times a day on TV, "But wait there's more!"

Just saw something that says that Javonte Smart has been cleared to play. Anyone surprised?
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?

No, they're already screwed. Might as well win something before you get the season vacated

The loss today probably drops them a seed. My guess is they went from a 2 to a 3. That wont help their odds

I still say the committee should omit them.. if they are on schedule to vacate wins after the season, why take a tournament spot from a deserving team at this point?tulaneoutlaw wrote:The loss today probably drops them a seed. My guess is they went from a 2 to a 3. That wont help their odds

I hear you, but you know that's not how it works. Replacing LSU with Belmont or somebody in the bubble wont bring more eyes to March Madness and thats all that mattersJohnny Mac wrote:I still say the committee should omit them.. if they are on schedule to vacate wins after the season, why take a tournament spot from a deserving team at this point?tulaneoutlaw wrote:The loss today probably drops them a seed. Re: lsu basketball
actually, I disagree with that assessment... punishing LSU by keeping them out of the tournament will be HUGE news and EVERYONE loves the mid major underdogs and that same pool of people are sick of the cartel conferences getting 18-15 teams into the dance (yes, I realize LSU isn't an 18-15 team, but I hope you see my point)tulaneoutlaw wrote:I hear you, but you know that's not how it works. this run on sentence is brought to you by Saturday Night Live, home of the run on skit that wasn't funny after the first 20 seconds

Re: lsu basketball
Even if your premise is true, jmac, theres nothing saying they wouldn't put South Carolina or Alabama or some other borderline sec team in their place. There are several good underdogs this year but even if LSU's spot did open theres no guarantee a mid major gets that spot

Re: lsu basketball
And where do we draw the line? Should Arizona be left out too (if they were going to make it anyway)? Should Kansas? This was an LSU decision to suspend Wade, and to keep them out based on that would just cause future wrong decisions (like not suspending Wade)

Re: lsu basketball
Seth Davis of The Athletic predicts Wade is gone but details are still undetermined. (i.e., terminated for cause with no pay or some type of compromise resignation.) What is more interesting he then speculates Gregg Marshall could end up at LSU.
It's clearly spitballing by Davis but I could see something like that happening as Alleva uses about $10 million of Tiger petty cash to make the peasant mob forget about basketball for a while.

I hope they do a full investigation. We'll be in the Big Dance next year because we'll be one of the few programs not on probation.
