Jalen Windham, Ga. State ex-recruit
The buzz in Georgia State circles is that their basketball signee Jalen Windham, a 6-4 scoring guard graduating from Indianapolis' Ben Davis HS (state runner-up in Indiana high school championship this year), will likely head to Tulane with coach Ron Hunter. Windham helped Ben Davis win the state championship as a soph when he scored 15 pts in the title game. This year as a senior, his team finished second to 26-1 Carmel HS. Windham averaged close to 18 pts and 4 rebs per game. He has been officially released from his scholarship with Georgia State. Ben Moore, who runs the 247sports site linked with Ga. State, says Windham and Coach Hunter have a long-standing relationship that in this case should pay dividends for Tulane.

it also tells me that Hunter still has his contacts in Indiana from his time coaching there. Which should also pay dividends in the future.

well, fwiw, Windham's teammate at High School was a 6-8" 350 pound center on the hoops team who also just happened to sign a football scholarship with Ohio State.
Re: Jalen Windham, Ga. State ex-recruit
Georgia State has treated Hunter's departure with class and it is nice that they didn't give this kid a hard time about letting him out of his letter of intent. Kudos to them for doing the right thing.

I notice you didn't follow the meme form of "asking for a friend".krewe of ham and eggs wrote:asking for another poster...
Ben Davis is a really good hoops school in a great hoops state. The question is whether Hunter was recruiting "at an AAC level" when at GSU... or for that matter, will it even matter (meaning, he seems to win big with recruits who were lesser-sought but he coaches them up).
All of this said, obviously we have the largest glass house in the conference and stone-throwing should not be considered...

Yeah, not exactly the kind of schools we want to be competing against if we're going to be competitive in the AAC. But again.... coach 'em up!GreenieBacker wrote:for what its worth, Rivals has him as a 3 Star Shooting Guard with 6 offers in hand (if you include us)

Windham isn't a premium athlete, which is why his offer list is probably not bigger. He's a below the rim guy. In all of his highlights, I never saw him dunk once (even on breakaway). He can really shoot the 3 and has consistent NBA range already. Would probably be our best shooter from Day 1 and his defender won't be able to help off of him which is a big advantage on offense. He also sees the court extremely well and is a good passer. Plays solid, fundamental basketball.
This one belongs to the Wave.

That sounds great; one of my biggest beefs is the lack of good fundamentals. We need more of this to reduce the sloppy play that seems so prevalent nowadays.TU23 wrote:Windham isn't a premium athlete, which is why his offer list is probably not bigger. What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?

If he signed with GS does he have to sit out a year?

If he is good enough for Georgia state, he is good enough for us. Didn’t they beat us each of the last two years?

Re: Jalen Windham, Ga. State ex-recruit
he is still in high school; so he will be immediately eligible as a frosh for 2019-20 season whichever school he officially picks; Ga. State released him from the scholarship he signed last November already.
Re: Jalen Windham, Ga. State ex-recruit
Yes but we won't be facing anyone that bad, maybe ever again. When they played Houston and Concinnati they got blasted.Luvs da Wave wrote:If he is good enough for Georgia state, he is good enough for us. Didn’t they beat us each of the last two years?

Fritz flipped Bradwell from GSU (south) and brought him to Tulane. That one has turned out ok.PeteRasche wrote:Yeah, not exactly the kind of schools we want to be competing against if we're going to be competitive in the AAC. Bradwell had really good offers though because other teams were recruiting him at running back and we and Georgia Southern recruited him to play quarterback.
Coach is going to have to get better players at Tulane than he did at Georgia State. And I’m sure he knows that

Re: Jalen Windham, Ga. State ex-recruit/UPDATE
Indiana Hoosiers have reached out to Jalen Windham and he very well may visit there the player said over the weekend. Other schools that are interested, seeking visits since he decommitted from Ga. State are Tulane, Kent State, Loyola (Chi.), Marshall & MTSU. Windham was quoted in the Indy Star paper over the weekend as saying he is also open to seeing who Georgia State hires as their new coach. He said he plans to take his time deciding this second time around. He was released from his Ga. State scholarship officially only 5 days ago.

Re: Jalen Windham, Ga. State ex-recruit
Yes it would in our current program state but I wonder if it has the same cache as it once had in the Bobby Knight days. That would only mean something to us olde(er) timers and of course the state of Indiana is still mad for hoops, but it’s been awhile since the Hoosiers were like the Hoosiers of old.Yankeewave wrote:would be tough to compete with Indiana
Still, if he has a solid offer from Indiana I think he goes there.
