This sh*t has to stop
The Philadelphia Flyers taking down Kate Smith's statue and teams no longer playing her recording of God Bless America for her performing a song in the 1930s, with a black man no less, that people are offended by today is RIDICULOUS.
This getting offended over EVERYTHING has to fking stop. It was over 80 years ago. It was "acceptable" at the time. No, it's not acceptable now.. but calling her a racist now because of it... it HAS to stop.

It is frightening that people are being held to standards were not even dreamed of in their day.
This is your basic "book burning," metaphorically speaking.

How does this thread not violate YOGWF Rule 5? Notwithstanding that Roller is a moderator I see nothing to gain other than spleen venting. You know this thread will not end well and seems to be why Rule 5 is there.

Counterpoint: who really cares if Kate Smith has a statue or not? Who is harmed by her song not being played?Johnny Mac wrote:The Philadelphia Flyers taking down Kate Smith's statue and teams no longer playing her recording of God Bless America for her performing a song in the 1930s, with a black man no less, that people are offended by today is RIDICULOUS.

That's the problem with "Rule 5's" PC police of whatever persuasion see sports topics as easy pickings because the vast majority of fans pose no opposition because they have no interest in political debate or are determined(to their own demise in the end) to separate politics and sports.TUPF wrote:How does this thread not violate YOGWF Rule 5? Is defending sports from politics a political action?TUPF wrote:How does this thread not violate YOGWF Rule 5? Notwithstanding that Roller is a moderator I see nothing to gain other than spleen venting. You know this thread will not end well and seems to be why Rule 5 is there.

Empowerment of the mob mentality leads to evermore restrictions, by virtue signaling, to the detriment of history and culture. Today Kate Smith, tomorrow tearing down Mt. Rushmore. Sounds extreme, but that is where the slippery slope leads.ml wave wrote:Counterpoint: who really cares if Kate Smith has a statue or not? I CARE AND THE NATION WILL BE HARMED BECAUSE IT WILL BE LESS IF HER SONG IS NOT PLAYED. HERE WE GO DOWN THAT SLIPPERY SLOPE.ml wave wrote:Counterpoint: who really cares if Kate Smith has a statue or not? Alternately, who is harmed if her song IS played?ml wave wrote:Counterpoint: who really cares if Kate Smith has a statue or not?
