Pelicans Won the Zion Lottery!
Crazy happenings! Who knows what they'll do now. I assume the AD rift is irreparable. Would he even want to play with Zion?
Wandering around somewhere in a matchup zone
Re: Pelicans Won the Zion Lottery!
Amen. Who cares? Trade AD for the haul of all time or maybe he will return to Pels for the mega contract.gerryb323 wrote:Crazy happenings! Who knows what they'll do now. I assume the AD rift is irreparable. Would he even want to play with Zion?
Nothing like blind @ss luck to help our local team.
Now let's win the exacta and have Daniels announce he is staying.

Not so sure he wouldn't. You want to win a championship, and let's assume Warriors, Bucks and Rockets are not in the picture. Your choices are:gerryb323 wrote:Crazy happenings! Who knows what they'll do now. I assume the AD rift is irreparable. Would he even want to play with Zion?
LA - LeBron rules, Ball sideshow, constant leadership drama (aka trainwreck)
NY - complete rebuild
Boston - Kyrie drama, meh mix otherwise, assuming Tatum would be part of the trade
Pels - play with Zion and Jrue.
Not so sure #4 doesn't look best right now.
Bring home da Wave!
Re: Pelicans Won the Zion Lottery!
It probably is the best situation (or close), especially when you factor in the additional money. That said, it would require a certain amount of pride swallowing that I don't think he has in him. I would guess he's off to NY with Durant and Kyrie.doncecco wrote:Not so sure he wouldn't. You want to win a championship, and let's assume Warriors, Bucks and Rockets are not in the picture. Sports Talking Heads are saying this morning he still wants to leave to: Los Angeles, New York or Boston. In that order with the Lakers a clear #1. And if that happens the Pels could load up on a bunch of young talent that the Lakers have in return.

He wants to leave then trade him. But where he goes is up to the Pels. Get the 3rd pick from NYK draft Garland and build around them.GreenieBacker wrote:Sports Talking Heads are saying this morning he still wants to leave to: Los Angeles, New York or Boston. Boston has 3 first rounders and Memphis' number 1 pick* next year. They could package all 4 and not have to part with Tatum or Brown. They may even throw in Gordon Hayward who wouldn't be such a bad veteran presence on the court for a squad of young guys. Boston could also throw in Robert Williams, who is raw but big to fill the void at center with AD gone. Boston sheds Hayward's max deal and they have room to sign Kyrie and AD without paying luxury tax. Maybe I should give Danny a call and let him know my thoughts.Poseidon wrote:He wants to leave then trade him. But where he goes is up to the Pels. Tulane kids will have a chance to see Zion more than if they'd gotten into Duke.

The Pelicans are all of a sudden looking pretty with Zion and a lot of takers for AD.

Re: Pelicans Won the Zion Lottery!
Yes and no. Word is that AD's agent has put word out that if AD doesn't go to a team he wants (and he really wants to go to the Lakers) he will refuse to sign a long term contract with his new team. Which would diminish his value TREMENDOUSLY.*

Re: Pelicans Won the Zion Lottery!
I will have to see that(diminishing value) to believe it. Boston and NYK are far more likely to think that convincing him to stay will be the easy part. They just have to get him. Paul George said the same then stayed in Oklahoma of all places.GreenieBacker wrote:Yes and no. That sounds old. The desirability of the Lakers as a destination took a big hit this year. The franchise is a mess.GreenieBacker wrote:Yes and no. AD's agent is the same as Lebronn James. But I'm not saying it will happen simply that its what I heard this morning driving in to work.

James as an attraction also took a hit, but not as bad a one as the top of the Lakers organization.

Re: Pelicans Won the Zion Lottery!
the Lakers are dysfunctional with him out there and their ownership is 100 percent culpable for that.. they regressed this year if you consider that the young guys who were there already would have naturally improved the team sans Lebron... I think LA would much rather have Kawhi than AD because that is an easier pursuit... they can throw cash at him and not have to send compensation then have to re-sign the player in an open market.long green wrote:James as an attraction also took a hit, but not as bad a one as the top of the Lakers organization.

Re: Pelicans Won the Zion Lottery!
Thread jack - From the time he signed with LA last year, I thought Lebron made a huge mistake from a basketball perspective. He had a chance to go somewhere with young talent like Philly and put them over the top. He could have taken it easy during the regular season to focus on the playoffs, resting a body that has tons of miles on it. If he were to bring a title to Philly, which hasn't had an NBA title in forever, in addition to his titles in Miami and Cleveland, he could retire a beloved legend to three different fan bases.
Instead, he chose the glitz and glamour of LA which may fit his image and business interests better but is much further away from contending. And he just keeps getting older.

Re: Pelicans Won the Zion Lottery!
Boston's draft picks are mediocre at best, they would definitely have to include Tatum and Smart and/or Brown. Hayward's play and contract basically make him a negative asset at this point (though one I'd be happy to buy low on...think he'll bounce back next year) so if they want to unload him that will cost them extra. With the disappointing play of Tatum this year and NY and LA having much higher picks, Boston will have to fork over just about everything if they want AD.Johnny Mac wrote:Boston has 3 first rounders and Memphis' number 1 pick* next year. If Kawhi leaves Toronto, it's expected that he'll sign with the Clippers. Lakers maybe looking at Boogie or Jimmy Butler.Johnny Mac wrote:the Lakers are dysfunctional with him out there and their ownership is 100 percent culpable for that.. they regressed this year if you consider that the young guys who were there already would have naturally improved the team sans Lebron... Re: Pelicans Won the Zion Lottery!
Ideal situation, basketball-wise, would have been for him to sign in New Orleans.tulaneoutlaw wrote:Thread jack - From the time he signed with LA last year, I thought Lebron made a huge mistake from a basketball perspective. Re: Pelicans Won the Zion Lottery!
Screw AD. He knew what he was doing(along with Lebron and his agency) and sabotaged the season when the Pels were still ni playoff contention. If the Knicks want him bad enough,, get their #3 overall pick, Mitchell Robinson, another starter, their #1 for the next 2 years, and make them take Solomon Hill's contract. You can play them off with Boston and take the best deal. VBoston actually has some young talent. Lakers have nothing worthwhile. If their talent was so good, they would have made the playoffs.
Re: Pelicans Won the Zion Lottery!
Ideal situation would have been for him to be healthy most of the time and/or recruit star and other free agent talent around him. In today's NBA that is a must have skill as well. Since he couldn't get anyone to play with him he will have to join them.ml wave wrote:Ideal situation, basketball-wise, would have been for him to sign in New Orleans.tulaneoutlaw wrote:Thread jack - From the time he signed with LA last year, I thought Lebron made a huge mistake from a basketball perspective. On the bright side, if AD doesn't make his trade demand when he does, not only do the Pels not get Zion, they probably also trade their pick in another attempt to mortgage the future to make the playoffs.Wavemania wrote:Screw AD. Probably the best Knicks trade asset, other than their pick this year, is the two unprotected picks they got from Dallas for Porzingis. So they'd trade #3, Knox, Robinson, Dennis Smith Jr., a couple other picks...what will be really interesting to see is if the Pels can get a 2022 pick from somebody, that's supposed to be the year of the "double draft" (first year that high schoolers will be eligible again). The Knicks 2022 pick plus the Dallas 2021 pick would be very nice, not sure the org is that forward-looking, though.
Re: Pelicans Won the Zion Lottery!
I meant for LeBron to sign here. Obviously was never going to happen, but would have been perfect fit for both sides.Poseidon wrote:Ideal situation would have been for him to be healthy most of the time and/or recruit star and other free agent talent around him.
