In case you missed it there is Golf this weekend

The PGA Championship is this weekend. Yes it is now moved from August to May. Keopka shoots a 63 in round 1.

And didn’t birdie a par 5. Tiger said 63 was the worst he could have shot. Unreal.

Personally, I just hate it when that happens...

if Koepka shot a 63 on Bethpage Black in the US Open and not the PGA, the USGA would have spent last night spreading steroids on the rough to get it waist high and skinning the greens to 18 on a stimp meter... but then again, he probably wouldn't have shot a 63 in US Open conditions.

So when the US Open was at Bethpage what else was different besides Pin placement?

for the US Open, the USGA mandates taller rough right off the fairway and they have a tendency to have the greens cut higher on the stimp meter... most golf tournaments the rough is cut way back and is shorter, which is why these guys tear it up on most normal weeks. The USGA would rather see +1 win the Open rather than -13.

That's pretty much what I thought. That said BK still probably walks away with at least a 65 under those conditions.

the USGA likes to punish you if you are just the slightest bit off target.. whether off the tee or onto the green.. If Koepka was that laser accurate yesterday, then you are correct.

shows you what a fickle game golf can be... Tiger is 2 behind the cut line with 4 holes to play.. will need 2 birdies unless the cut line is moved to plus 4.. then he will need 1 birdie or he will be trunk slamming this evening
