UConn to Big East
Amazed this hasn't been posted yet. UConn basketball and other sports headed to Big East. No decision on where football will go.

Re: Looks like UConn is leaving and going back to the Big Ea
I can't think of a slam dunk.
Army will get mentioned but they've done this before and it didn't work out. They're success is based on by far the weakest schedule in the FBS and they are peaking. This is as good as they can be. In this league they'd be a drag. Also, they'd be a third "special" member. That makes for an unstable league.
USM has a strong moral claim but does Tulane want someone so close? I think they would benefit greatly with the upgrade in money and exposure and would turn into a league asset.
This is will be spun nationally as an embarrassment, is there a move that can walk this back? Can we attract an MWC program?

Re: Looks like UConn is leaving and going back to the Big Ea
It's all a question of what happens with their football (as the yahoo story indicates). They really should consider dropping football like most of the Big East schools. The AAC isn't keeping them as football only.
I like the idea of replacing them with a basketball only school like VCU and just leaving football one team shorter. It would actually HELP the conference RPI.

...don't even think about Rice (not aimed at you, Pete).

Western Kentucky anyone? Never wanted usm in any conference with Tulane. Don't need another Florida school. Too bad Rice let everything athletics drop.

Still wouldn't be surprised to see UMass floated to provide a northeastern partner for Temple.

Charlotte and UMass will get mentions, but I dont like either option. Football staying at 11 probably isnt that viable either. I'm sure Aresco has had a list of potential adds for awhile. BYU might draw some interest although the footprint doesnt make sense. USM and UAB maybe? Theres not a clear cut candidate.

Davidson for basketball only. Adds academic prestige and is a good basketball program.
Georgia State?

i feel like this should be on the main board.
this might make their basketball team marginally more attractive, but UCONN has seen its day.

I think UNCC is a great fit. And a huge population base.
I would look at Army again, FAU, and La Tech. Don’t want USM or UAB, that road has been exhausted.
Also, Georgia State and UNCC should be looked at too

i would say air force for brand name, but they are far and i don't want to play another service academy every year. \
seems like a non-football school might be the best option.

Re: Looks like UConn is leaving and going back to the Big Ea
UNCC is potential based only. It's not the worst idea, but they have no football history which is tough to swallow when you are trying to make a p6 case
Re: UConn to Big East
Merge this thread. Too confusing
Re: Looks like UConn is leaving and going back to the Big Ea
Gerryworld, are you ok?
If you want P6, than it is Boise, BYU, San Diego State, Colorado State, but that is way too far away. So that leaves us with football powers like ???? App State, Georgia Southern, ???? Who? We could do a lot worst than Charlotte.

I agree. As this one came first it can't really be the duplicate though.tjtlja wrote:Merge this thread. Too confusing

I was just asking because you seem to have had a stroke and said we should add the same school in three different paragraphs, posted within 8 minutes of each other.tjtlja wrote:Gerryworld, are you ok?

Re: Looks like UConn is leaving and going back to the Big Ea
If we're considering media markets and travel, then Georgia State is a no-brainer.

Re: UConn to Big East
Sure it can, there are no rules to this. The thread with most responses should take the cake
Re: Looks like UConn is leaving and going back to the Big Ea
Gerryworld, you posted in two different threads about the same subject. Are you in the hospital?
