Looking at the schools we are beating for a lot of these players, it is hard to believe so many of them are rated 3 stars based on previous years ratings. It would be interesting to see what criteria they use to rate these recruits and how it has changed over the years.

It's going to be interesting to see what we take from here on....I would think we can safely say that we have 6-8 slots left.

2-3 OL....12 scholarship OL set to return in 2020
1-2 RB....5 scholarship RB set to return in 2020
1-2 WR...8 scholarship WR set to return in 2020
1-2 DB...8 scholarship S and 6 corners returning in 2020.

I think we're probably done (at least on a high school level) with QB, DL, LB at this point. The weakest position moving forward in that group above is WR. We'll split RBs out (Jones, Spears, Booker) and flex receiving TEs (Williams, James and Keitha Jones) to make up for that deficiency. The strongest position group is probably RB followed by DB and then OLine.
This one belongs to the Wave.

Strongest position group is DL. We need CBs as the 2020 group will have little to no proven CBs (we have plenty of S). We will need OLs and RBs.

This is a great class to date.

Assuming 8 sport:
2 RB
2 OL
1 DT
2 CB (not a S)
1 WR/LB/DT

If the two JC players are counter for 2019:

1 additional OL
1 LB/DT/WR

What players are you hoping we get at these various positions? Like to see some names associated with positions. Researching this on the internet was a waste of time given who committed this past week. Some posters have mentioned kids that visited, so some of the names are out there.

Of course I would like local player or Louisiana players. However, in the end, it does not matter as long at we sign players that are quality Div 1 players at the various positions. CBs need to have speed and agility.

We do not need players just to fill a position. We need quality players, and if they come from China, that is fine if they deliver Tulane a championship.

It wasn’t my intention to turn this into a LA vs. out of state recruit. Like you, I want players from anywhere.

I just want to see some names we can follow. I put several lengthy list together last weekend and based on who committed this week, my list can be thrown in the trash can. There seem to some posters that definitely know the names, and it would be nice to see. We are nearly finish for 2020 and these last few pieces can make or break the class.

I will throw one name out - Mason Narcisse. Do we take another DT if he wants in?

Yes. I think we should take Mason Narcisse, and maybe another DT depending on the numbers left to sign.

Presuming we have 8-9 scholarships open, my wish list would be (I will probably bat 0, but here it goes) -

DT - Mason Narcisse, St. Charles Catholic
DB - Pig Cage, Rummel; Caleb Anderson, East Feliciana, Ian Jackson; Pelahatchie Attendance Center
OL - Josh Remetich, Holy Cross; Davis Gayle, Loganville, GA
WR - Trenton Grow, West St. John; Tyler Kirkwood, Holy Cross
RB - Ashaad Johnson, Warren Easton (this is truly a dream - had no idea who we may be chasing)

I have always believed the schools interested play the biggest role in rankings. These sites don’t have the resources to actually evaluate every player. They may have good info on the top 100 or so, but after that, they use other resources.

As of today, all 14 commitments are rated three stars by 247.

On Rivals, the only differences are Matthew Lombardi (2 stars), Natorian Watts (2 stars), Elijah Champaigne (not rated), Ethan Barr (not rated), and Noah Taliancich (not rated).

Per ESPN, Angelo Anderson is 4 stars, Dane Middlebrook is 2 stars, and Dyson, Chaney, and the Watts twins are not listed as commitments.

Don’t worry, the ESPN reference was just for comparative purposes.

I would love to use some Tulane knowledge, but no one is sharing. Or perhaps we have lost some overall interest in football recruiting. Just not the number of overall responses we use to have. Perhaps the new timeline has led to this, but doesn’t seem to be the case for some of the other schools I like to follow.

If you’ve been a YOGWFer like many of us have since 2004, and sportsonly.com/Tulane before that, one sees that it’s really just a handful here who have the connections and put in the effort to clarify the recruiting picture. Long green, TU23, doc and maybe a couple more come to mind. Most of the rest of us just sponge off of them if we are at all interested. Some of us only care what we see on the field, not how they got there. Others are interested 24/7/365 in recruiting but our recruiting oracles probably have day jobs too.

Recruiting discussions over the decades here can be summarized as:
- We need to recruit more from New Orleans and Louisiana, vs. we don’t care where they are from as long as they are good and want to be here
- We don’t believe in star ratings unless or until they are in our favor
- We are always hoping for the diamond in the rough who can get coached up, until we can routinely get kids coveted by the P5
- We’ll be young until we’re not
- Once the season goes badly, rjc will surface and break out the “its institutional sports suicide” boilerplate

We're doing fine. Some of these guys could do so well this fall that we find ourselves worried. I don't have any information and I'm no professional but I like some of these guys above their "station." Cornelius Dyson reminds me a bit of Jerry Phillips, who was a terrific HS safety that became a good college ILB. Ethan Barr looks like a bigger Luke Jackson who was really solid in his last year, showing that he might have had a really good career without the serious medical interruption near the start. Barr looks more like an edge rusher or even a DE after a redshirt year.

There are ways to use the internet to guess at that. Figure it out.
