He was our highest rated player from the high school ranks.

Seems like Toledo's superfluous last year all over again, just a very slow moving train wreck.

Yes, at Texas. How were his recruits here?

Not defending TJ but Texas recruits itself

Consensus All-American, Golden Spikes award finalist, and 1st round draft pick good enough for you?

Was he a big time recruit? Even if he was, which i seem to recall he wasnt, that is one player. I wish he hadnt left us for Texas but he was not hauling in top 10 talent here

No need to defend yourself, your point was/is good.

Why would we care where the recruits ranked if they turn into that good of a player? Pierce is a good coach, it looks like we made a mistake with his replacement (though I'm open to being proven otherwise this year), denigrating Pierce's recruiting here is just silly. Besides Hoese, he recruited two Freshman All-Americans here (Zubia and Massey).

Better recruits typically turn into better players.

Not really denigrating Pierce, just pointing out that SRs comment that he brought in a top ten class at UT is not an apples to apples comparison. I cannot remember the last time we had such a class. I dont even think the rodgers alemais class was top ten.

Also, his comment was clearly meant to slam our current coach. I have zero confidence that TJ is the answer but not like we fired Pierce

If we're projecting to the future, sure, I'd love to get higher ranked recruits too, but since we're looking back all that really matters is how they played. It's pretty simple, Pierce recruited Hoese and he turned out to be awesome, credit to Pierce (and Jewett for developing him).
