Re: Week VI (Schedule, Discussion, Scores)
HUGE hype here for Friday night. Cincinnati was down after the OSU blowout and an "okay" win over Miami OH (UC did not play well and appeared to have lost a lot of confidence after expecting to compete in Columbus). Going to Marshall yesterday and taking them to the woodshed at their place restored the confidence and now they're looking at Friday as the game of the year, perhaps the biggest game they've had since their Big East days. If all preseason polls hold, this game will decide the AAC East, despite being so early in the year. If UCF wins, the Cincinnati fans will immediately go into "when's tip-off of the first exhibition?" mode (I'm not even kidding, it will be a wholehearted ship-jump and the stadium will be half-full or less the rest of the way). If UC wins, they will expect nothing less than 11-1 with an eye to the AAC CG and potentially a NY6 bowl.

You can change the kickoff of the UConn/USF game from 6 pm to 11 am (Noon ET) because of..... wait for it.... mosquitos.

Boy, things are just all going right for UConn, aren't they? Football team is in the dumps and now there's a health scare with mosquitos in the vicinity of their stadium.

Re: Week VI (Schedule, Discussion, Scores)
The amazing thing is that CBSSN wanted that game before the bugs got in the way. Keep that in mind for everyone that is assuming UConn/Tulane wont be 11 AM because it'll be on ESPN3. If anyone wanted USF/UConn, someone might very well want UConn/TU

Is it too late to switch our game to that 6PM CST time slot? We're both on CBSSN.

Re: Week VI (Schedule, Discussion, Scores)
Cincinnati using the new technology...
ON EDIT, IT WAS A JOKE.
Cincinnati's football program is facing big backlash because they posted that photo above and said they were doing it... but it was a photoshop job and they aren't... now their fans are upset because they all loved it.
Imagine if Tulane Equipment tweeted a photo of the coolest uniform you'd ever seen (whatever that might be for your tastes) and then later that afternoon said "just kidding, we're not really doing that." That's basically what UC Football did to themselves today. Nice move.

I thought the NCAA had banned non-natural field colors? Boise St., Eastern Washington, and Central Arkansas were grandfathered in, but otherwise no odd colors allowed. Did Cinci find a loophole?

Re: Week VI (Schedule, Discussion, Scores)
This is sort of a serious question. What are the football issues with playing on a black colored artificial surface? (Other than I hope I never witness it.)
Meanwhile I always root against any team that uses a cat's eyes field logo at home just because. I can just hear the Rocky XXVII theme now...… GO KNIGHTS!!

Re: Week VI (Schedule, Discussion, Scores)
To me, the primary one is that a field in your team's colors make it very easy to hide a player (see the video I posted above). That trick has been used several times--at all levels (even in the NFL), but why open the door to the creation of camouflage by way of how the field is painted and the uniforms are colored?Baywave1 wrote:This is sort of a serious question. Re: Week VI (Schedule, Discussion, Scores)
Gerry is right, rule never officially changed. Several other schools use off color fields. In addition to Boise St., Eastern Michigan (gray) and Coastal Carolina (teal? aqua?) Are FBS teams with colored fields. There are a couple of additional smaller division schools as well

Is there even a painting technology that would allow them to do this? Or was it all......a ruse?PeteRasche wrote:Yeah, and it's causing some anger - see my post above pointing people to read my original post that I edited after they announced it was a joke.Poseidon wrote:They said later this was "just having some fun" on twitter and the field isn't going tot be like that.

Re: Week VI (Schedule, Discussion, Scores)
I did not think it was possible but they indeed do it on that very field regularly. UC shares their field with FC Cincinnati (local MLS team), so the lines on the Nippert Stadium turf switch between pro soccer and college football weekly, sometimes back and forth within a week. Two weeks ago when Cincinnati hosted Miami (OH), they did a throwback weekend, and not only did they wear old uniforms, but they did a throwback turf too. That was probably what caused them to make the joke about changing the field color for the UCF game.gerryb323 wrote:Is there even a painting technology that would allow them to do this?

Re: Week VI (Schedule, Discussion, Scores)
Rule violation after all: nothing wrong with a black field but the lines have to be white. The rendering had them red.
