November 6, 1869
Today is the 150th birthday of college football. The game we all know and love. So say Happy Birthday to college football. We have all at one time or another felt the joy and the sadness associated with the game. And lest we forget you can't really appreciate the great euphoria of victory until you have felt the sting of defeat. Happy Birthday College Football. We love you.

Final score, 6-4 Rutgers. They claim a national title off of this, despite losing badly in a rematch later the same year. My point? We should totally claim 1998

I know scoring was different back then but the 2nd game was 8-0 Princeton. How were points scored then? For all I know that's the equivalent of 56-0.tulaneoutlaw wrote:Final score, 6-4 Rutgers. Those scores should be read as the number of goals tallied. Six goals to four in the first game, eight goals to none in the second. Kicking was the primary means of scoring, not touchdowns.
The first game was close. The second was a curb stomping. In a modern game it would play out like a 56-0 rout.

To my modern eyes, 8-0 doesn't seem so bad. In increments of 1 though....yeesh.

The attendance at that first game was 100. I wonder if that was an estimate or an actual count.gerryb323 wrote:Soccer style goalsOGSB wrote:I know scoring was different back then but the 2nd game was 8-0 Princeton.
