James Wiseman ineligible
Memphis top player ruled ineligible by NCAA... news just broke... Hardaway helped Wiseman move from Nashville to Memphis. Hardaway is classified as a Memphis booster since he donated money back in 2008.
Wiseman's attorney is suing Memphis and the NCAA... good luck with that

What would the damages be? All that sweet Memphis booster money he’ll be missing out on? Oh wait.Johnny Mac wrote:Memphis top player ruled ineligible by NCAA... news just broke... The Memphis board is in an uproar. It's amazing.

Temporary ruling allows Wiseman to play, presumably while they sort this out.

Re: James Wiseman ineligible
University is being sued along with NCAA by Wiseman and his lawyer but university of Memphis prez says they support Penny and Wiseman; get those Penny & Sons Movers t-shirts ready. Shades of Jon English; shades of Ned Fowler.

First thing that came to my mind too.randymc wrote:University is being sued along with NCAA by Wiseman and his lawyer but university of Memphis prez says they support Penny and Wiseman; get those Penny & Sons Movers t-shirts ready. Shades of Jon English;

yeah, shades of Jon English is correct.. Memphis could be forfeiting these games... they should have just sat the kid and continued the fight without the risk of having wins taken away

Re: James Wiseman ineligible
I really don't understand a winning argument here. Penny is top 2 in terms of most famous Memphis alum (esp. to a basketball kid) and clearly a booster. The fact that he's not their coach is immaterial. I can't imagine even the restraining order lasts very long. Amazing.

Re: James Wiseman ineligible
Anyone wanna bet Wiseman happily goes off to the pros and this blows over with no repercussions?
Like Penny wasn't cheating. Oooh, he's a famous ex-basketball player. Yeah, and the kids he's recruiting were like 3 or 4 when he retired, and outside of one of two decent years, he was more famous for his shoe commercials with Lil Penny. He's not getting great classes because of his name, HE'S GETTING THEM BECAUSE HE'S CHEATING.

Re: James Wiseman ineligible
It has become more and more obvious in the past five years or so that the NCAA has no interest in punishing any big-name school. And yes, in basketball, Memphis is "big name", despite not being "P5" (don't you love when ESPN references schools during basketball season by the football label??)wavedom wrote:Just like every other high profile coach.PeteRasche wrote:Anyone wanna bet Wiseman happily goes off to the pros and this blows over with no repercussions?

The NCAA seems to have adopted Mexico’s Cartel strategy, hugs not guns when it comes to MBB

Re: James Wiseman ineligible
Memphis officially rules Wiseman ineligible as part of the process for requesting reinstatement. Lawsuit was also dropped. All part of a likely settlement. I'd look for him to get somewhere between 3-5 game suspension. Will be interesting to see what penalties Penny might face.

And if things go as usual, he'll score 40 and singlehandedly beat us and the following day be ruled ineligible the rest of the season.Baywave1 wrote:Then he will be back for first Tulane Memphis game

Re: James Wiseman ineligible
Unless Memphis wins an appeal of the 12-game suspension, Wiseman won't play when Memphis and Tulane meet on Dec. 30 at Memphis.

James Wiseman leaves Memphis
He's dropping out of college hoops completely and preparing for NBA draft. wants dat money.
"Wiseman announced on Instagram that he’s leaving Memphis to begin preparing for the NBA Draft. Wiseman is in the conversation for No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft." -- Evan Daniels, recruiting expert.
Of course, Memphis still faces NCAA investigation for Penny Hardaway's "moving company" operation.
