MBB: ECU at Tulane at 5pm CST
Re: MBB: ECU at Tulane at 5pm CST
Thompson plays so hard and is the only guy that takes it hard to the rim. He deserves so much credit for his effort. He will be very difficult to replace next year.
I’m not sure what happened to Hightower. He isn’t the same player as he was earlier in the year. Some of it may be that we don’t attempt to run anymore and he was scoring on the break and getting to the line. Walker had some great performances early in the year but hasn’t done much in conference play.
Offensively, we are just standing still and shooting 3s. I just don’t get it.

Student section was slimly attended but not a ghost town as there were two specialty MG parades last night. I don't know why we tipped off in early evening but I guess TV rules here even for ESPN+.
Most fans do file out during alma mater including me. Interestingly most students including football team attendees will leave before game end in blowouts but not that many season ticket holders (the hardy few!) do for what it's worth. However in the years we've been playing post-game Alma Mater for MBB and football home games (certainly Fritz era), I never recall team leaving early regardless of how Tulane played.
As I said, not a good look to have only the Cheer squads/Shock Wave on the floor for the Alma Mater played by Sound Wave. If the team wants to get to the locker room so quickly, just stop playing it. No reason to keep a recent "tradition" if the primary folks involved aren't invested in it.

I am equally puzzled. In the first half of the year there was an offense that worked hard to create spacing and angles for drives to the hoop and they were scoring and getting to the line and creating kick-out opportunities. Somewhere along the line that all fell apart.NJwave wrote:Thompson plays so hard and is the only guy that takes it hard to the rim. He deserves so much credit for his effort. I don't think he stepped on the floor in the second half.. he took a couple of really bad shots in the first half that got rejected so maybe Hunter had seen enoughNJwave wrote:Thompson plays so hard and is the only guy that takes it hard to the rim. That's what ml and I postulated about three weeks ago when this started.TUPF wrote:I wonder if this is at all tied with having a collection mostly of one and dones. Not looking to long term success so when things go south like it has, the mindset says I’ll be out of here in a few weeks anyway.
Sing the alma mater? Pfft. I’m just passing through.
Re: MBB: ECU at Tulane at 5pm CST
I agree with the theory, but of the transfers only 3 are likely to be one and done. Thompson as I posted previously plays with a ton of effort. He hasn’t quit. Lawson and Thomas have never made much of an effort to rebound or play defense.PeteRasche wrote:That's what ml and I postulated about three weeks ago when this started.TUPF wrote:I wonder if this is at all tied with having a collection mostly of one and dones. It’s Walker and Hightower that have fallen off the most and they both should be back.

I think Teshaun is starting to show us why the UGA coach soured on him.. he faded last year in conference play and had his minutes reduced... we can't afford to reduce his minutes at Tulane... so... that's where we are with himNJwave wrote:I agree with the theory, but of the transfers only 3 are likely to be one and done. Walker lost minutes to Thomas and rightfully so because we needed Nic's shooting on the court and I think that makes Walker press too hard when he's on the floor.. with his quicks, he should be driving and dishing, but nobody moves to the hole when a teammate is driving... but for some reason, Hunter prefers drive and kick for 3s.

No real low post scoring or rebounding (same as last year?)- No bench to speak of ( same as last year?) - A bench full of underclassmen(same as last year?)-A 2 guard forced to play the PG position (same as last year?) - A team exhausted at the end of games and at the end of the season(same as last year?) This coaching staff is going to have to get transfers for the next couple of years while they recruit - Positives? Days is a solid piece of the puzzle - McGee might be a good player- The PG recruit from GA could be very good player - I am waiting to see how the staff recruits and how the roster shakes out - I am trying to be patient- I am also tired of being patient

Doc, Charlie Russell has great potential as well... great hustle... needs to work on knocking down his shots. Ibby Ali has great size.. if he can stay healthy, he can rotate with Days in that middle spot until we get a real "big" down there.doc wrote:No real low post scoring or rebounding (same as last year?)- No bench to speak of ( same as last year?) - A bench full of underclassmen(same as last year?)-A 2 guard forced to play the PG position (same as last year?) - A team exhausted at the end of games and at the end of the season(same as last year?) Heard a few minutes of the coaches' radio show last night while in the car...when asked about recruits, Hunter praised the kid from GA (James), then talked about the other signee and said something to the effect of "I can't remember his name but I'm really excited to have him". Wasn't a great look.doc wrote:No real low post scoring or rebounding (same as last year?)- No bench to speak of ( same as last year?) - A bench full of underclassmen(same as last year?)-A 2 guard forced to play the PG position (same as last year?) - A team exhausted at the end of games and at the end of the season(same as last year?) Re: MBB: ECU at Tulane at 5pm CST
in his defense, he has far more pressing issues to be top of mind... second, his assistants do a lot of the recruiting, don't they? Finally, he was on a radio show with again, more pressing issues on his mind. I can't remember the kid's name at the moment either but I had Sion James top of mind without issue.ml wave wrote:Heard a few minutes of the coaches' radio show last night while in the car...when asked about recruits, Hunter praised the kid from GA (James), then talked about the other signee and said something to the effect of "I can't remember his name but I'm really excited to have him". Oh, I agree it's not the end of the world or anything but by the same token, it's not football...we only have 2 signees! And, counterpoint, the most pressing issue currently is improving the talent level in the program.Johnny Mac wrote:in his defense, he has far more pressing issues to be top of mind... second, his assistants do a lot of the recruiting, don't they? I think ending this losing streak and avoid having to walk on Lake Ponchartrain trump recruiting at the moment.ml wave wrote:Oh, I agree it's not the end of the world or anything but by the same token, it's not football...we only have 2 signees! To me, this year is shot so who cares, I'd prefer he worry about the future but I get he may think differently.Johnny Mac wrote:I think ending this losing streak and avoid having to walk on Lake Ponchartrain trump recruiting at the moment.ml wave wrote:Oh, I agree it's not the end of the world or anything but by the same token, it's not football...we only have 2 signees! If he were to say that he’s only playing for the future then it would be tough getting the one-and-dones to play hard the rest of the season.“When I wake up every morning, I know better days are coming,” he said. “That’s not even an issue. Where I’m struggling is for these kids because I came here to help these kids win and I feel like I’m letting them down, and I don’t like that. I know this program will win (down the road). I’m worried about the now.”

There'd be no reason to come out and say it (and several not to come out and say it as you point out). He's saying the right things and if that's how he truly feels than that is admirable. But, if it were me, I'd be looking forward (then again, I've never coached a team to the NCAA Tournament).waverider wrote:Here’s a quote OGSB posted in another threadml wave wrote:To me, this year is shot so who cares, I'd prefer he worry about the future but I get he may think differently.Johnny Mac wrote:I think ending this losing streak and avoid having to walk on Lake Ponchartrain trump recruiting at the moment.ml wave wrote:Oh, I agree it's not the end of the world or anything but by the same token, it's not football...we only have 2 signees! The fact that he doesn’t seem to sugarcoat things makes me believe he really is playing for the present while planning for the future.
