Game 1 of 4 to win this thing (Tulane vs Shockers)

Post by NJwave »

Their pitcher has an ERA over 5 but they can hit. Need a great start, a win and limit the number of pitchers used. Interesting line up with Hart batting clean up and Aviles dropping to 6th. Burchfield back in the lineup and Stevens starting as well.

Let’s get this.

We need to be patient at the plate and not swing at bad pitches. If Olthoff keeps dealing I really like our chances

Aviles dropped in the order.

Seems like the first team that scores wins the game in the tournament.

Laprarie singled. Engelhard doubled him home.
Niemann leaves him stranded at 3rd

Nieman wasn’t close on those swing and misses.

I had a strange feeling that was coming. Olthoff does not pitch well with a full count. Tends to leave the ball over the plate.

Strikeout that Aviles can’t find and runner is safe. Why is he catching? I’d take Lee at 12% over him.

Like I said yesterday, Lee>>>Hastings>>>>>>Aviles.

I'ld take the third catcher at this stage. He has struck out every at bat in the tournament and is a massive defensive liability.

2 Ks in the inning but he still has to throw more pitches. Nice catch by Hart to end the inning.

Is nieman too hurt to catch? I’d take Aldrich behind the plate over Aviles. WSU has to be hoping for base runners. Free base on steal attempts.

Plus, you just have to be near the plate to get a K. I’d pull him for Hastings now.

In a deeply shocking turn of events, Aviles follows up his defensive blunder with a strikeout.

Guys, Aviles is struggling. No doubt about it. No reason to pile on him. Kid is giving his best. Obviously needs a day off, and that is a coaching decision.

1st and 2nd 2 out for Aviles. Would be a nice time to break out of the slump.

Hart with a 2 out single. Steals 2nd.
Niemann battles and walks.
Aviles at bat.

Tulane announcer spent the inning singing the praises of Manieri.

If we can’t score a few runs off this scrub on the mound, we deserve to go home
