So Aresco's concern is absolutely legit: if Cincinnati upsets Memphis in the AAC CG, barring an upset by Hawaii against Boise (in Boise), we will get screwed out of the NY6 game because there's no way Cincinnati leaps all the way over BSU now. Even though Cincinnati and Memphis are likely better and more worthy of the spot, by nature of them playing twice in two weeks, a split with knock them both out.

It was always a legit concern, but I'd wait for the playoff rankings before calling it absolutely. The committee has shown itself willing to reject the two traditional polls in deference to strength of schedule, style points, etc. i.e. Ohio State vs LSU for #1.

Cincinnati #20
Navy #23

Other G5 competition: Boise #19, App St #21

Seems like Arescos politicking had an effect. The committee seems to have a positioned themselves to (in the event cincy Beats Memphis in the rematch) put Cincy ahead of App State for sure and to give themselves room to debate between Cincy and Boise based on how each look in their conference championship games (remembering that Memphis >>>> Hawai’i, making it easier to jump a single spot next week)

This is indeed HUGE. If Cincinnati wins on the road in a hostile CG environment against #17 Memphis, I believe they will indeed jump Boise, who plays unranked Hawaii. Well done, Aresco!
