Dante Wright--WR, Navarre HS

Post by wave-em in »

Has entered the transfer portal.

He was committed 2 years ago but wanted to play wr not CB, as the new (not gone, Will Hall) OC wanted.

Since phatt is done for the year, will WF re-connect??

I don’t think he can transfer here or anywhere and play this year. And I wouldn’t pull the trigger on him so quickly. I’d like to see us limit ourselves to one good transfer WR and I can think of a few people who might be available.

Also, our staff sort of ran him off, the story being that we wanted him to play in the secondary (as you mention). You can trace a lot of our scrambling at WR to that mistake. If the story is accurate, Wright might tell us to piss up a rope.
And may our enemies, if they exist, be unconscious of our purpose. - From The Lady Vanishes

Despite Tulane re-offering on 12/6 (the day after the portal officially opened) the talented WR and former Fr All-American, Dante has signed with Temple.
btw, UCF also offered and he took an official visit there just last week.

OL are extremely valuable. There are only so many guys that size that can play. They are in such high demand, it doesn't surprise me at all that competition for that position is fierce. WR might be more doable but they are also a hot commodity since a top flight WR is more of a game breaker than any position save QB these days.

The guy makes some interesting choices. First Colorado State then Temple. Was the concern about playing time?

As bad as Temple was, he should have no concerns about playing time. His bigger concern will be whether they have a QB that can get him the ball to begin with.

We are all biased to Tulane. It’s nice to have options. He chose otherwise. AAC needs a strong Temple. Hope he improves them (except against Tulane!). I safely guess though that like Scott, Fritz ain’t giving him three bites at apple if he doesn’t like Philadelphia.

Isn’t Kurt Warner’s son the QB at Temple? Wasn’t he voted freshman of the year?

Son EJ is the QB at Temple and other son Kade is a WR at Kansas State (had a few catches against us).

Their new coach has the program headed in the right direction.
It took WF 6-7 years to turn Tulane around. Bash Temple all you want until Tulane plays them in 2 years.
They will be a much different entity by then. Hopefully, WF can sustain this momentum and the IPF can break ground by then.

Sounds like better opportunity to be an immediate starter:

Kinda happens to us all the time, right? We play Temple when they're strong, then somehow we miss them when they're week. Same thing happened with Navy, and even with USF at one point.
