Charlotte fires their head coach Will Healy. Charlotte will bring down the quality of the American as they stand.

I agree. I want all the incoming teams to improve so the conference will keep some of the prestige.long green wrote:So it’s a good thing they’re not standing pat, then.

There was no reason to lock the previous thread. The reason given was that the thread was off topic, but the two posts above were about the very relevant firing of Healy. Even if it was off topic, and it was not, when has that ever stopped a yogwf thread?
Mods should reopen the old thread and merge these two.

Agree. It had a couple of wanderings from topic on the last page but probably 90% of it was on-topic.tulaneoutlaw wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 6:24 am There was no reason to lock the previous thread. It’s a diversion from the topic but it’s relevant. Perhaps another mod can quietly unlock the original thread and we can move on.
There is an innocent reason for the wandering within the first thread. The carousel thread got going early this year because of all the early HC firings but when that activity slowed down…

I actually brought it back on topic with the Healy firing news.tulaneoutlaw wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 6:24 am There was no reason to lock the previous thread. Re: 2022-23 College Football Coaching Carousel
Who’s next to get fired, aside from the inevitability at Auburn?
From the big conferences I’d say either Hafley from BC or Neal Brown at WVU.

Re: 2022-23 College Football Coaching Carousel
I thin Hafley is safe with bowls the last two years. They've been really beat up on the line but he managed to keep Zay Flowers from leaving and his recruiting has been good for BC.
I thought Neal Brown was toast, but apparently his buyout at WVU is too steep and the AD has already shot that down for this year. I think Satterfield at Louisville is in hot water, bowl or no. Is Tom Allen at Indiana in danger? What about Shaw at Stanford?

I think both of the guys you mention last make it to next year.

What about Shaw at Stanford or Wilcox at Cal? Do either of those schools care enough to make a change?long green wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 11:06 am I think both of the guys you mention last make it to next year.
On the G5 level, does Littrell at NT survive? I think they've got some money and are very envious of UTSA right now.

Re: 2022-23 College Football Coaching Carousel
Wilcox seems to be the more likely of the two. Shaw’s program is moribund. Can he re-invent it? I wonder if Wilcox could win outside of Berkeley. Sonny Dykes was a terrible fit there but he was able to hit the reset button closer to home.
I think less often of G5 openings because those seldom kick off a train of events in the profession.

Bruce Feldman called Charlotte one of the better (top? I can't remember specifically what he said) G5 gigs and mentioned none other than Alex Atkins as a possible candidate.

Interesting to revisit the locked thread -- Leipold was the hot name -- and hasn't won a game in nearly a month.

Yep. With three straight sell outs of 50,000 fans. Everyone here agrees he's a good coach and if he stays he will win even more over time. Sooner than later.
We deserve so much better

I have seen High Freeze being mentioned as someone that might get a look. Liberty just gave him an 8 year extension.

8 years, 5 million. He will be the highest paid g5 coach starting next year. It won't keep him from leaving for an sec gig if offered, but it's a smart play by them. Either he sticks around or they get a huge buyout.

Re: 2022-23 College Football Coaching Carousel
I remember when Bama was first trying to lure Nick Saban and was talking $4M per year and even people in Alabama were dumbfounded by how stupid that number was and how no college could pay that for a coach... Fast forward 15 years and freaking LIBERTY is paying almost $5M per year? Crazy.

Looks like John Cohen from Mississippi State to Auburn as AD. When does he can Harsin?
Interestingly, Mississippi State plays Auburn this week. That could be awkward.

Auburn ends the non-suspense by firing Harsin.

Took them long enough (especially by their standards). Had to figure this past weekend was the last straw.

Re: 2022-23 College Football Coaching Carousel
They wanted an AD in place before they made the change. Once that happened, there was little chance Harsin would coach another game.
