AAC in March Madness 2023

Post by tulaneoutlaw »

Houston won their opener yesterday over nku but Sasser reinjured his groin and it was also revealed shead has a sore knee. That probably puts paid to a deep run for them. Memphis plays today against dangerous 8 seed fau in a preview of a conference game next year

Memphis overcame a 10 point deficit in the first half, closing on a 16-4 run, and takes a 35-31 lead into the break.

Might as well root for FAU to make Final Four now. But how did Tulane lose to UM by 40 points in crunch time?

Based on that game (between 2 AAC teams next year) we will likely be picked no better than 3rd or 4th and maybe even lower depending on who returns.

What a disappointment by Memphis. The winner of that game had a sweet sixteen appearance gifted to them with the fdu win and they blew it. That was a chance to get more units for the conference and they couldn't get it done. Nobody does less with more than penny

I'm also going to use this to track the progress of the two aac squads in the nit.

Cinci beat Virginia Tech in the opener and then defeated Hofstra today to secure a spot in the final 8. They will play the winner of Utah Valley and Colorado.

Ucf won their opener over Florida and faces Oregon tomorrow

Houston tops Auburn 81-64 to advance.

Houston held Auburn to 4/24 shooting in the 2nd half

Houston was down 10 at half and I thought it was time to stick a fork in them. Uhhh yeah then they won the second half 50-23. Total domination and definitely proved they belong in the sweet 16.

Saw one analyst in post game that wrote, Houston “uglied” Auburn in the second half. Great metaphor for what Cougs do when they are on. Been there done that with Tulane now for years.

Funniest comment was Auburn’s coach saying he wishes it had been a twenty minute game.

Still pulling for UH to leave a lot of units to AAC. Keep winning!

UCF was eliminated by Oregon in the NIT yesterday. That leaves Cinci still alive and playing Utah Valley for a spot in the NIT Final 4. If they win, they'll play the winner of Vandy and UAB for a spot in the title game.

Is there a league payout for NIT success? I'm guessing no, or not enough to bother rooting for UC?

No payout, just conference pride (like they keep touting Memphis' NIT title a couple years ago). I'm not rooting for them, just noting their progress.

ESPN gives Houston the best odds to make quarterfinals. I like their thinking but hope it’s not a 2023 version of the SI Cover jinx

That surprises me a bit. Would've thought maybe Creighton or Tennessee since they play lower seeds. I hope Shead and Sasser are healthy because I would really like to claim another AAC final four. If they do get past Miami, the Elite 8, especially if Texas gets through is a tough matchup.

The anti-cinci faction got their wish. They lose to Utah Valley. Uab on the other hand did win. They'll play Utah Valley with a spot in the final on the line.

The very long and semi-illustrious career of Jordan "Jelly" Walker continues. It would help the public opinion of the AAC going into next year if UAB won it all. Actually, no it wouldn't, nobody remembers who even won last year's NIT. :?

Side note, Charlotte won the CBI. That definitely doesn't help.
