A "belated" Congratulations to Coach Fritz on victory #42!

Win #42 was Coach's first Win against UCF.

If you were to rank his "Top " wins, I think one could argue that the two biggest of his Tulane tenure came in the past two weeks.

Coach Fritz has finally surpassed Chris Scelfo as the winningest Bowl Coach in Tulane history,

Coach Fritz now has Cure Bowl, Armed Forces Bowl, and Cotton Bowl champs hardware on his shelf.

Congrats to Coach Fritz on win #44 against South Alabama. Team was prepared and pulled away.

Coach now has a record of 7-1 when Tulane enters a game with a Top 25 ranking.

Some would call this result a "Typical Tulane" win.

Interesting with continual BS from last year that Tulane had not beaten a ranked team since the Battle of New Orleans *

Maybe "We want Willie's winners" would be a wonderful bumper sticker... (if alliteration is the goal)

Congratulations to Coach on WIN #45 at Tulane and bringing The Bell back Uptown.

Coach Fritz is the only Tulane Head Coach to ever beat USM 3 times.

Here's to him adding a 4th time on September 26, 2026.

Congratulations to Coach Fritz on Win #46.

Coach Fritz led the Green Wave for the 92nd time (which is now second to only Chris Scelfo; who was the Tulane Head Coach of record for 94 games).

The win over Nicholls was also the 200th win of his career (including all schools at all levels), and he sits solidly in 5th place among all active coaches per last night's broadcast. If somebody is up to the task of editing Wikipedia, there's a page of winningest coaches which still has Fritz in the "approaching 200" list. He will apparently be the 97th coach EVER to reach 200 (and that's out of a LOT of coaches). Congrats!

List of Tulane coaches (in my years) by whether they made the program better or worse.
Made the program better (in order starting with the best)
1. Willie Fritz: inherited some talent, but no QB. Cotton Bowl W is Cotton Bowl W
2. Tommy Bowden: inherited a lot of talent, but 12-0 is 12-0
3. Mack Brown: started from scratch with everything in disarray; played tough schedules.
4. Larry Smith: by far our best recruiter; took a year too long to figure out how to coach and put it together, but he finally did; still, left a lot of Ws on the table. Could be #2 or #3
5. Bennie Ellender: okay we were 8-4 the year before he started, and he left at 4-7; but his team suffered a lot of injuries his last 2 years. Recruiting was falling off at the end, but he improved it along the way. We won games on ABC. First TU coach to recruit AA players. Without question, he improved our program.
Large gap
6. Buddy Teevens: inherited very little talent; left a lot of talent; lack of Ws was ridiculous
7. Curtis Johnson: inherited very little talent; left some talent

Made the program worse (in order, starting with the most worst)
1 Wally English
2. Bob Toledo: inherited a decent senior class, but the program was struggling post Katrina. He really struggled with recruiting until the very end. Not calling TOs v. Syracuse worse than punting on 3rd down.
3. Greg Davis: probably our worst recruiter ever, except for Toledo (and Toledo had an excuse)
4. Chris Scelfo: arguably, he should be #2 on this list. Program immediately fell off the cliff in his first regular season game. The king of the blowout loss.
Large Gap
5. Vince Gibson: easily the best coach on this list; inherited a lot of talent, but the program didn’t fall off of the cliff like it did under Scelfo.

Congrats on #47, Coach!

Willie Fritz is now over .500 for his tenure at Tulane.

He’s one more Tulane game from becoming an equal to Chris Scelfo and being in a tie for most games as a Tulane Head Football Coach (94).

Congrats to Coach Fritz on win #48 at Tulane.

Coach doing “Typical Tulane” things by winning on the road by double-digits during a prime time ESPN game.

Coach Fritz has now reached the top of the “Most Football Games Coached at Tulane” Mountain and stands shoulder to shoulder with Chris Scelfo.

At Homecoming, Coach can take that #1 spot and keep his impressive stretch of winning football for the Green Wave rolling.
