I bet you would have loved having Mom with you

Apparently we’ve offered Yale OT Jonathan Mendoza. He’s a grad transfer with one year of eligibility and several offers already.

We are going to hit the portal hard this year. We need OL. Hope we can land him.

The biggest need will be QB. Our future starting QB is not on the current roster.

And we’ve offered an OL from Harvard. Jacob Rizy, who plays tackle as well and has two years to play. Also quite a few offers.

The Ivies are burning up the transfer portal. Everyone with a degree and eligibility seems to be hopping in.

Horton is a good player. But I think they can land a better QB in the portal. We will see.

Everybody needs OL every year. It is the scarcest position and other than an elite sure-fire QB like Caleb Williams, OL will be the highest priority for most teams. My understanding is this year's recruiting cycle is also thin, especially at tackle, so expect the competition for those guys to be even stronger this year.

THIS. Having just finished college touring, my second son benefited most on the visits where he was on his own for most of it. I noticed that when my wife and I were part of the visits with son number one he was less engaged and Tagged Along. When he was responsible for himself he was much more engaged. Son 2 was dropped off and the wife and I toured on our own and drank ALOT of coffee.

Also worth remembering that OL is, with the possible exception of QB, the one position where the jump from high school to college is the greatest. Barring a generational-type talent, starting a freshman on the OL is usually a very bad sign, and thus transfers carry even greater value than at most other positions.
