Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
I doubt Pratt is on any draft boards for this year. He's playing well, but the things he is doing aren't eye-popping in terms of what scouts are looking for. And our offense often leads to him having sub-200-yard passing days (like yesterday) which isn't the desired prototype in today's pass-happy NFL.

I think we all better help replenish our NIL coffers. Would imagine we will need to help the school keep some notable players.
Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
I think most of our players, if not all, will be back. And a lot of players in the portal will be looking at Tulane as a destination.

Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
He's always had a pretty nice deep ball and is functionally mobile. 2 traits that NFL teams like to select for. It also helps that he doesn't miss on as many short/intermediate passes as he used to. Used to have at least a few of those a game in 2020/21.PeteRasche wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 12:22 pm I doubt Pratt is on any draft boards for this year. The marks against him are he's still prone to the occasional headscratching throw, rushing thru his progressions, and his playstyle getting himself hurt too often. So I'd say it's *almost* no shot he goes pro, but with the leap he took in '22 I say almost no instead of straight up no. Improve some more in 2023 and we can start asking about that again.

Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
Good observations, 1309. He's not quite a "blow me away - did you see that" type of player, yet. Still too many head-scratching throws for me to think he'd think he has a shot at the pros. Not yet.1309th WAVE wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 7:59 pmHe's always had a pretty nice deep ball and is functionally mobile. 2 traits that NFL teams like to select for. Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
The danger is, I suspect, that he goes the way of j Johnson. NIL is really changing things and we should expect deeper funded programs to come after our notable players. Hopefully, we have enough NIL funds to fend teams off.
Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
QBs from starters to bench warmers are absolute free agents jumping everywhere. Do you think Nix and Daniels moved for NiL money? Fritz will manage this well and has an insurance policy in Horton.
The issue is not that Johnson left. It’s that no one else who mattered departed while eight to ten great players came in through transfer portal for 2-10 team.
Fritz May have been best FBS coach this season in mastering the portal. I’d bet he continues to excel there.

Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
But are you assuming our own NIL money didnt help keep some of our own players? I have no idea but I keep reading about the importance of it and to assume we are operating in a bubble seems silly. Tulane has almost always been behind when it comes to sports, I don’t think we can afford to be late to the party on this.
Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
Does NIL matter? Sure. We are starting to see college players in national ad campaigns not just your local Ford dealership. I don’t have deep details on NIL to comment further TU 23 will have to do that
Mine was simply a factual observation. Fritz was master of portal this season and it’s a key contributor to the breakout of Tulane. Will it continue? Hope so but no guessing here
Meanwhile we all can enjoy 2022.

Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
One thing we have going for us with Pratt is our coaching staff will be back. It will be his first opportunity to have the same OC two seasons in a row. Does he want to go for a 4th OC elsewhere? We'll see. NIL is important but I think his family is doing just fine financially so no pressure on him there. Our NIL through FTW will focus on him if there are offers.

Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
Those things are all nice but I’m guessing money talks and we need it to keep our players. I think you guys are looking at it with Tulane colored glasses. I wonder if all those baseball players who entered the portal were enticed back with NIL or the DL that was in the portal but came back?
Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
How much NIL do you think we have? kc could fill us in better but I know FTW announced a goal of raising $100k...have not seen any notice that the goal has been met. They are paying players to make social media posts promoting various charities (I'm guessing this is how they're able to allow for tax-deductible contributions?) and appear on podcasts...I don't think we're handing out tens of thousands of $. Do we have other collectives?Yankeewave wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 10:53 am Those things are all nice but I’m guessing money talks and we need it to keep our players. Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
I have no idea but not a lot. That is going to be the problem. As the mid tier SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 teams grow their NILs, I’m guessing we get picked apart. This is just the beginning. Maybe I’m wrong and I hope so but I’m guessing we are going to need a robust fund to keep our guys.
Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
Not using Tulane colored glasses with regards to Pratt. If he finishes the season strong and gets offers Tulane won't be able to match it. End of story if that's all that matters to him.As to baseball players very little if any will get thrown at our players in that sport.Yankeewave wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 10:53 am Those things are all nice but I’m guessing money talks and we need it to keep our players. Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
In the next 5 games, Pratt could put together 300 minutes that makes him the most legendary Tulane athlete of all time (even ahead of Shaun). We're talking statue on campus type stuff - renaming Ben Weiner Drive to Michael Pratt Avenue. He's playing for a lifetime legacy (even if the NFL doesn't work out).
The NFL will find you in 2022. They found Josh Allen at Wyoming. They found Trey Lance at North Dakota State.
I hope he plays so well these next 5 games that he jumps up everyone's NFL Draft board and we lose him that way.

QBU, I like the way you’re thinking. Ben’s street is safe but I think you’d get a lot of momentum for naming Circle in front of Gibson after Pratt if z tulane does go 13-1

Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
Michael Pratt now has more career collegiate rushing Touchdowns (22) than Mewelde Moore (21).
Tonight, he passed Roch Hontas in career completions and J.P. Losman in career touchdowns.
#7 is an absolute pleasure to watch and cheer for.

Roch Hontas, MD.
At Tulane, it's a 40 year career, not 4. Hopefully, many parents of current Wave players see this and will remind their Wave boys in lieu of potential fleeting NIL. Nick Anderson said as much tonight in his on field ESPN pre game interview.
Yes, Michael and our entire D is a pleasure to watch for this too long suffering Wave Alum football fan.

With 5 Touchdowns (4 Passing + 1 Rushing) on Saturday, Michael now has 89 Career Touchdowns at Tulane (66 Passing and 23 Rushing)!
The only Tulane QB to combine for more is Shaun King with 92 Career Touchdowns (72 Passing and 20 Rushing).
Also notable, Michael now has 6,963 Passing Yards which moved him to 5th all-time in Career Passing Yards at Tulane. He passed both Lester Ricard (6,608) and JP Losman (6,754) on Saturday.

Re: PRATTometer: Michael's Place in the Record Books
GauWave, I have the photo of Roch Hontas (#7) passing during the 1979 game against LSU. As you know, we went out to a 26-0 halftime lead and won 26-14.
Interesting stat:
Tulane beat LSU legendary coach Charlie McClendon in his last regular season game (the one above).
Tulane beat LSU basketball coach Dale Brown in his last game (NIT).
Tulane beat LSU baseball coach Skip Bertman in his last game (NCAA Super Regional).
A trifecta!
