PeteRasche wrote: Mon Sep 25, 2023 6:31 pm The ironic thing is, as evidence by the PAC for the past many years, parity within your conference is actually NOT what you want for the CFP and NY6. Unless you're the P2, you can't afford to have all your teams beating each other and having multiple losses. Two losses in any league other than the P2 just creates another opening for another P2 team into a coveted postseason spot.

I suspect the MWC and SBC will both fall prey to this in the next two months. Hopefully that leaves a repeat-champ Tulane as the easy choice for the NY6.
This is why most conferences have gotten rid of divisions and now put the top two teams in the championship game.

We've got 11 votes in both AP & Coaches poll.
We need to go 1 - 0.
That's all that matters, for me.

Here are some of the teams ahead of us and their opponents this week. I tried to look for the teams that may drop out with a loss. #17 Duke is playing #11 ND and I don’t think the loser drops below us.

10 Utah
19 Oregon St (loser may not drop too low)

22 Florida
27 Kentucky -2.5

So Carolina
21 Tennessee -12.5

24 Kansas
3 Texas -17

Nevada
25 Fresno St -24.5 Nevada is 0-4 so Fresno St would have to really sleep walk

26 Kansas St. (Bye)

8 USC
28 Colorado +21.5

29 Louisville
NC State +3.5 Friday

30 UCLA (Bye)

Indiana
31Maryland -14

West Virginia
32 TCU -11.5

If usc does an Oregon number on the buffs. They're gonna be below us.

They will, and they will.
Don't worry, ESPN has apparently already moved on from Deion to Kel-Swift.

FWIW, The Athletic still has us ranked as Number 1 among Group of 5. Fresno second.

That's because they actually pay attention.

Fresno beat two bad P5 teams but also struggled with an FCS. We played well without QB1 against a top 25 team and won a road game without QB1 also, and now we have QB1 back.

Of course if Fresno goes undefeated, all we can do is tip our cap. But if they lose a single game (I think they will), they're out, unless everyone else in the running loses a(nother) game.

With a better SOS last season we made cotton bowl with two losses. That would be hard to repeat. I do think we make Peach Bowl if we run remainder if schedule.

Easy to say. 1-0.

Week V coaches poll is out.

We've moved back "up" to 35 (if you count that way) with 10 votes, but that's actually one less vote than last week (even if three unofficial spots higher).

Fresno is #24, Air Force 29, Wyoming 33, JMU 36, Marshall 40, Ohio 41, Memphis 42.

LSU drops to 23, Ole Miss up to 15

Of the three teams that dropped out of the top 25, two (Kansas and K State) remain above us, only Florida moved below us.

AP poll out. We are 30 with 8 votes. Fresno up to 24 (130 votes). AFA right behind us with 7 votes. There's a very steep drop from 26 to 27 to 28 to 29 to us,. To me that just shows the pollsters pay no real attention to the 20-25 spots.

Only other G5 with votes is JMU with 3.

AP Week V:

Much like the Coaches, we drop in votes (down to 8) but move up in ranking to 30rd.

Fresno is 24, Air Force 31, JMU 36.

LSU is #23 and Ole Miss 16.

K state wasnt in the top 25 last week in the AP, and they are still ahead of us even with a loss, but both the teams that dropped out of the polls (Kansas and Florida) dropped behind us, Florida not even getting a vote.

Correction: We stayed at 8 votes, that wasn't a drop. It was lateral.

Speaking of polls, a Florida St fan pointed out how they were penalized for a close win over unranked Clemson, but Georgia struggles against unranked Auburn and it’s because “every team in the sec is so good”.

Last season we had 2 losses, Troy had 2 losses, and all the other G5 champions had more than 2 losses. We clearly had a better resume than Troy.

Finish the season with fewer losses than the other G5 champs and there’s a very very good chance you get the nod. Otherwise the committee will use their “judgement”. This year we probably get the benefit of the doubt if we’re tied with anyone with 1 loss because of last season.

Pretty ridiculous for lsu to be ranked. We were #9 last year and have lost one game to to #15 with out our star qb. Lsu has lost two games, one to that same team at full strength. And we are ranked behind them ? Such trash

Lot of MWC and west coast love in the media. Fox moved Fresno-Wyoming to prime time on big Fox, kicking the Big 12 to FS1.

A couple of factors here:
General -- "the west coast is back" coupled with PAC12 dissolving at the same time makes a good story.
Some sympathy for WSU/OSU and probable landing spot in the MWC
AAC NY6 fatigue -- despite success, desire for new helmets from MWC, Belt, or MAC.

Interesting to see what the committee does when they meet in the coming weeks.

root for Wyoming over Fresno this coming weekend; and a QB change at Boise State so they can start winning and knock out the Air Force, Wyoming, Fresno crowd.
