Like the AAC does with ABC, MWC probably has in there contract x amount of games get to be on the main channel. This is probably the FOX game for the season. Not much going on in the Big 12 otherwise.LawGreenie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 11:19 am Lot of MWC and west coast love in the media. Fox moved Fresno-Wyoming to prime time on big Fox, kicking the Big 12 to FS1.
A couple of factors here:
General -- "the west coast is back" coupled with PAC12 dissolving at the same time makes a good story.
Some sympathy for WSU/OSU and probable landing spot in the MWC
AAC NY6 fatigue -- despite success, desire for new helmets from MWC, Belt, or MAC.
Interesting to see what the committee does when they meet in the coming weeks.

Re: Polls
Vannini/Athletic still rank Tulane number one G5. Says it could flip with Fresno win this week and then flip back again the following week (presumably if Tulane beats Memphis.)
Only one guy but Athletic is very influential. If no G5 is ranked, will CFP Committee similarly prefer Tulane?
No guesses here but just a reminder that one prominent observer still prefers Tulane over FSU. Hope he is right

Just a self-serving opinion.
Tulane v LSU in Peach or Fiesta > Tulane v LSU in Birmingham Bowl > Tulane vs anyone in Fiesta or Peach >Tulane vs Ole Miss or USC in Peach or fiesta

LSU is headed to a bowl like the one they played in last year, without the distraction of a conference title game in between.

Re: Polls
Would you really prefer playing LSU in Birmingham Bowl vs field in Peach Bowl? Why? Latter seems much better option for Tulane if it is to continue successfully to P4 in the future.

Vs LSU in Peach (or fiesta) > ole miss or Usc in peach > field in peach > lsu in regular bowl > generic p5 in regular bowl > g5 in regular bowl.
And even that id predicate in *if* lsu is ny6 eligible, they likely won’t be, and I HOPE they won’t be

Re: Polls
Interesting...I'd prefer a non-rematch in peach/fiesta, and I'd assume that the bowls would also, so we wouldn't be paired up with Ole Miss and less likely to be paired with USC.

Re: Polls
What draws me to that is less "wanting a rematch" and more "I've seen how we match up with my own eye test." I'm confident we could beat Ole Miss with a healthy and in sync Pratt. I wouldn't use the word confident when talking about beating Caleb Williams, but I'm confident we could score and not get blown out, and would love to win again, especially because I think that rematch would draw a lot of national eyeballs. I'm not "worried" of playing much of anyone outside of the 4 that will be in the playoff, but I feel we'd do particularly well against Ole Miss and USC relative to their rankings

Hmm, that's fair. Vs USC at least we wouldn't have the "they got overlooked" excuse.WaveProf wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2023 11:22 amWhat draws me to that is less "wanting a rematch" and more "I've seen how we match up with my own eye test." Re: Polls - Notre Dame.....
A cautionary tale...... Notre Dame: Ohio State, Duke, Louisville, next USC and then, after Pitt, Clemson. This schedule is murderous, in large part due to ND's historic cachet and its non-conference status forcing it to raise the stack of chips so high that it is ready to topple. But what I saw in the Louisville game was just worn-out kids. The 4th and forever call by the ND coach in the 4th Q deep in his own end of the field was virtually a surrender statement; it was sad to see, and I don't remember ever seeing anything quite like it before. I don't know how he can get this squad back emotionally and physically for Caleb Williams and Co.
You can't schedule a season like this. Tulane should never do it, even if it gets into a P5 conference. It's too much.

Re: Polls
I'll start a new thread each week once we get ranked again, but in the meantime adding this here.
The post-week 6 Coaches poll:
Up to 18 votes this week, good for 35th if you count that way.
Behind Wyoming (27th), Air Force (28)
And ahead of JMU (36), Fresno (38), Ohio (39), Memphis (40), and Liberty (42).
LSU is #20, Ole Miss is #13.
I anticipate doing better in the AP. And happy to have picked up a fair amount of votes on coaches (8 new votes).
If we win decidedly most of the rest of the way out, I feel we have a good chance of leapfrogging Wyoming and Air Force, at least in the AP and the Playoff Committee (which is what counts). But we need the MWC teams that don't win the MWC to fade off, and we need to look GOOD in our wins. We also need Air Force to lose at least one game. Otherwise Wyoming/Air Force/Fresno still can get in ahead of us with 1 loss

Re: Polls
Thanks for the update. Yeah I’m not feeling good about our odds of being ranked this week. Garland Gillian put us back in his top 25 (#22), but based on the coaches poll I think Wyoming and Airforce are the trendy g5 picks.
Wyomings only loss is to Texas, who did just lose but will still be in the top 10. Our only loss is to ole miss, who thankfully did come back to win. Of course Texas destroyed them, and we outplayed ole miss for 3 quarters with our back up qb.
This is where our season last year and pre season ranking needs to help. I think us dropping out so early and the aac being atrocious has minimized those advantages.

Re: Polls
Be interesting to see how many votes we get since the AP has been a little more generous to us.

This
We won’t be too 25. But the more people’s cards we are on, the more people are paying attention, the more ground we can make up on Air Force/Wyoming. If we aren’t on people’s radar, we won’t leapfrog in the future. If we are, we can. It’ll say a lot.

Re: Polls
Even better Marathon: Kentucky (24) and Missouri (26) play next week. One of them will drop out. Wyoming (27) and AFA (28) play. One of them will drop out. Miami (25) has UNC. Wisconsin (29) has Iowa, so root for the Hawkeyes and Heels.
There's a legit chance we stumble into a ranking if we beat Memphis handily. We'll get eyeballs on a Friday night.
Sure would be nice to have an "SMU 2022" type performance.

Nice legwork, Pete. I saw your similar post on another thread, but this one really spells it out. Also glad we have the Friday game. "Sure would be nice to have an 'SMU 2022' type performance." YES. I will never forget that game. I hadn't seen a Wave team like that since games in '98. We came in to kick @$$, and we did. Who will ever forget Michael on a QB draw into the end zone and then running past students' outstretched hands for several high-5s!? YEOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!PeteRasche wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 1:29 pm Even better Marathon: Kentucky (24) and Missouri (26) play next week. One of them will drop out. Wyoming (27) and AFA (28) play. Re: Polls
100% re SMU last year. Similar to this year I think until we saw that not many of us were realistically thinking about the cotton bowl. Just put this in the other thread too. Thinking the same that it would be great to see if we can have a complete game where the offense goes off
