Strength of Schedule Watch

Post by nolasilver »

Edit:

Fresno goes down

Marshall goes down

Tulane is in the drivers seat with Air Force, Memphis and SMU being the closest competitors.

Missouri barely loses to lsu

Memphis is losing 14 - 17 vs Boise State. Memphis has scored 14 unanswered.

Ole miss with a big home game vs LSU. Lane kiffin I’ll hate you half as much if can beat lsu
Would it be bad I I were to hope for lightening to knock out (but not do in) both teams and Kiffen, thus resulting in both teams forfeiting?

Let Kiffin win big for one week, its a double mitzvah for us as it helps us AND it humiliates LSU. Plenty of time to go back to hating Lane Kiffin next week.

ESPN had a very long story this week about Kiffin. I hate to say it but it made me dislike him a little less. Basically pointed out that he was akin to a child actor, being raised as the son of a famous coach, getting a huge job and all the fame and riches too early, without ever having to work his way up. He fully admits he didn't handle it well and was an immature brat, and says he's still working to be better.

Whatever. Beat LSU for us, will ya?

Wins in this window by Ole Miss and Memphis would be great for optics going into next two weeks.

Very nice win for Memphis.

Winner of the Friday Night game in two weeks should move into the Top 25.

Ole Miss Win helps Strength of Schedule. Southern Miss is getting destroyed.

Be nice if Nicholls gets their first win of the year vs McNeese (0-4).

Ole Miss was 9-of-16 on third down and two of three on fourth down. Against Tulane, that same Ole Miss offense looked, at times, pedestrian. The Rebels were 1 of 13 on third down.
Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins, who ran 33 times for 177 yards against LSU, ran 18 times for 48 yards against the Green Wave.

Nicholls won.

I mean, sure, 1-0 is 1-0, and I like to go 1-0, but Tulane doesn't actually have a good win yet as far as ranking buzz is concerned. Our best performance there is the loss to Old Misses.

South Alabama is a very puzzling team, and I begin to suspect they're more middling than good. Would not surprise me if they lose to ULM next week.

Look at Memphis’ schedule. They will finish as a 10-win team.

If we can beat Memphis on the road, while attrition keeps happening around us the next two weeks, we’ll get the benefit of the doubt by voters from memories of what we did to Caleb Williams’ squad in January. I know it isn’t supposed to work like that but it will.

Florida and Kansas should fall out the rankings. LSU should too but they won’t this week.

That’s wild if lsu doesn’t fall out. Memphis may be ranked above lsu (or with other votes right outside). This Memphis game is the game of the regular season for Tulane, Memphis and the aac. And unfortunately is on the road for us.

Memphis will be favored and looks beatable. I know @ Memphis has been a house of horrors for us, but it’s time to shake that off. Lfg roll wave

Memphis is huge. A loss eliminates the loser from ny6. It's not ideal circumstances in the road and in a revenge spot for them but it sure would be great timing to break the away streak. Memphis is the closest thing to a rival we have in this league so I want this win more than any other on the schedule. I will say even with a loss there's still a chance to make the aac title game but we would need help from others to get there.

I've said before as the season goes on, voters look primarily at the loss column. A 1 loss g5 with 8 or 9 wins will be ranked almost regardless of their schedule. Certainly an 11-1 g5 would be ranked heading into a conf title game.

Agree outlaw. Win margins don't matter at this point, no G5 has any opponent impressive enough to even get "style points". At some point the pollsters will start noticing gaudy records and a 1-loss defending Cotton Bowl champ will get votes again. If we go 12-1 and win every game by single point and we're still in. All we need is Fresno to lose a game, because they're ahead of us and they'll keep sneaking up too.

And if it mattered, Memphis today helped maintain the "AAC>MWC" idea.

Only one contender lost today, Georgia State losing to Troy. I crossed them off the list on the non-Tulane forum. If USA can't help us by winning the SBC, maybe they can by knocking off a few select teams (ahem, Marshall).

Memphis had the third lowest pgwe by a winner today at 24.5%. If they don't block a Boise fg and return it for a td they likely lose that game.
